Barry Jackson: Philbin reaction and fallout from around the league

Ripped to shreds. Hey Joe .... need some pointers on being a HC in the NFL. Utter embarrassment for this franchise.

Ultimately this falls squarely on Ross. The buck stops somewhere.

I forgot that you had "NFL head coach" somewhere on your resume.

It's quite feeble to base something on an outsider's view of things. Don't get me wrong, they're entitled to their opinion, but when were they there for any of that?

All of this "if I was Joe Philbin I would have done..." Well, they're not PHilbin. And they weren't in his shoes, and they weren't in that position. Who are they to say what they would have done when they weren't put in that exact situation to weigh the pros and cons of what to do? It's easy to stand high and mighty and say "I would have done this." That's what I hate about this whole thing.

Nevermind that Belichick was caught cheating and later gave a contract extension to a player spiraling out of control, and Sean Peyton was an advocate of player targeting. Somebody gets called names and all of a sudden the media rises on its pedestal like they're fighting the next great battle for mankind, like nothing ever happened under their watch.

When you have to read what Herm Edwards thinks about a situation you are scraping the bottom of the barrel just to get an opinion.

Herms players loved him...and never won a dam thing.

Herm Edwards? Guy was a terrible coach so somebody is suppose to listen what this clown has to say about having a great locker room? I guess that qualifies him to make a comment because he was a NFL coach. Nope. He's even worse as a "so-called" expert on ESPN. Anytime he's on-CLICK!

Add Buoniconti's name to the long, long list of people who took note of that late season collapse, and were worried. I guess we should not have eyes, and just have "faith" that everything will turn out fine.

Philbin has done everything he can since he landed in Davie, to not be accountable. Ireland is out the door, Sherman is out the door, Turner is out the door, and even the trainer is out. Philbin is still here, dodging accountability and spouting generalized nonsense about whiteboards and tv's. So far, all I've seen him excel at, is keeping his job.

I'm putting all my hope in the new people who have come into the organization. I'm hoping that Hickey will come in an drag us into a better direction, and look at things from an outsiders view. I'm hoping Lazor will grab Tannehill and work with him, and figure out how to make Philbin's offense work right.

The criticism is perfect and to the point. Sorry folks.

Joe having "foot soldiers" in the looker room is something I have said he failed to have. That is on him.

Where are "his guys"?

Oh no, the anti-Dolphins, anti-Philbin virus has infected Barry Jackson too! It's like The Walking Dead now. We're going to have to start shooting media members in the head and going on supply runs. Don't let them scratch or bite you or you'll become just like everyone in the national media - a non-Dolphins homer! Your fandom is in jeopardy!

Dolphin greats Nick Buonocotti and Manny Fernandez... Just more FH "haters"!!!

It's incredible how he can shout "I am in charge of the workplace!" But somehow everyone else around him takes the fall for what goes on there...

Some people say Joe is a man of character, by the way he throws everyone else off the ship in order to save his own ass, I don't see it...

Are you saying Ireland, Sherman, McNeill and Turner were wrongly let go?

No, but how is he not accountable for anything? I personally think Philbin was just as culpable as the guys you mentioned for a lot of things going on. As they say, "The Buck Stops Here". Well, apparently not with Philbin. Turner was his handpicked guy. We even saw Philbin giving Turner instruction to "toughen up" John Jerry during Hard Knocks. As even he attested to, HE is responsible for the workplace. Well, if things get out of control in the workplace, HE should be held responsible. Yet, that clearly didnt happen. He was all too willing to pin it all on his employees.

And personally, I think Philbin did a worse job this past year than Ireland (the OL not withstanding). The team had enough talent to make the playoffs in a crummy AFC, yet Philbin blew it all with several poor coaching performances against subpar teams.

I'm not a Philbin supporter, never have been, but I fail to see how he could've done or said anything different yesterday.

I believe the media was going to be out for him regardless. Anything less than his resignation and humiliation for their public mutilating Twitter lust wouldn't have sufficed.

Philbin was exonerated in the report so what's why he has a job. I think anyone who was negatively reflected in that report will be gone now.

Ross is in control. He kept Philbin. Philbin is toeing the line. He HAS to get it right this year.

But it will be difficult for him. Ross will likely want to be the standard in tolerance and workplace decorum in the NFL. I'd imagine policies, media attention, and outside forces may become a distraction for this team. They will be associated to this scandal for likely the entire next year at the very least.

What I found interesting though from all of the interviews yesterday, that every coach said they have a pulse in their buildings, and know everything that goes on. I don't think it was a slight to Philbin at all, just a matter of proactive damage control with everyone trying to cover their asses.

Reading this from BArry Jackson's article is part of the reason I don't think Philbin is a good Head coach.

Being more alert, something that clearly is an issue. Ditching the cue cards and becoming more of an inspirational leader when he addresses his men --- important considering at least one Dolphins player expressed concern that the team has assumed the flat, unemotional personality of its coach.

Joe is never accountable as the HC. Always someone else's fault.
