Serious question.
With the deficiencies this team had last year and with what we did in free agency and the draft why did anyone think we would be a playoff team?
Last year couldnt stop the run and couldnt get pressure on qb's.
We had a weakness in secondary, huge weakness at LB and huge weakness on OL.
We did nothing to address the biggest weaknesses on team.
We decided that the solution to our problems was signing one of the top DT in football and then drafting another DT in the second round.
We basically did nothing to address the other areas in the off season of any significance.
In reality should we be suprised what the end result has been.
Thats even overlooking that Ross should have made a coaching change but decided before season was over that he deserved not only to keep his job but an extension.

What team does nothing to fix their real issues and expects to suddenly be a playoff team?

A lot of let downs. Philbin is not a good coach. We banked on Taylor and Davis progressing. Didn't have a plan B for Delmas. Misi with another letdown year, Jenkins has just been solid, maybe Hewitt or vigil will surprise at the end of the year here. Would much rather than see them as I have see enough of Misi. We all knew O-line would be bad. Tbh I thought they would be worse. Jennings is non existent. Cameron not really producing much.

All that being said the biggest letdown has been Ryan Tannehill. No hate. I'm calling it as I see it. We all expected more and we all know it. It's week 11 and we are out of it. Be honest with yourself

People banked on Tannehill finally proving the doubters wrong, instead of doing that he actually has seemed to prove the believers wrong. There were players people expected to contribute (Taylor, Aikens, hell even Dallas Thomas) who all have failed with not one of them panning out. The injury bug has sucked this year as well. We expected the new culture philbin was trying to install would Atleast prove better than before along with improvements of previously mentioned players. Not to mention suh and a few other players that we're added as well. This season has practically been absolute worst case scenario for Miami and it sucks because we all expected better.

I understand people thinking Tanne will go to next level but realistically why would anyone believe that Any of our other corners had the ability to be starters or that we had made any moves that would fix the oline.
I think if you look at our offseason , it was a recipe for the disaster that we are

It's a lot of things that led to lofty expectations from not only Dolphins fans but the media and other fans as well. It's Tannehill finally having a down year. It's bringing in new weapons on offense that are either not utilized properly or a big let down (Cameron, Stills, Jennings). It's the assumption that Parker would make an immediate impact, and that the other rookies would contribute when none really have. Only Phillips looks promising so far. And the Oline is still as bad as ever.

The assumption that getting Suh would mask the CRAP that is our LB corps. Defensive backs giving up big plays at the worst times.

But most of all it's the coaching staff. Everyone can now see how truly awful Joe Philbin was as a coach. Lazors play calling is as inept as you can get. We know what happened to Coyle.

About everything that could go wrong did this year. More bad signings, bad draft picks, and bad execution. Leads to a bad team.

Well there's no denying that now. I personally felt that Taylor showed flashes previously and he had potential. A lot of folks including myself had high hopes for Chris McCain and the LB group as a whole too

I just hadnt seen enough from either to think they were a solution as a starter. McCain had some potential as a situational player but never will be a full time linebacker or DE in a 4-3.
I hated our offseason because its like we just ignored holes from last year and said well lets improve the areas we were decent at. Much like our idea of replacing Dansby and that other guy with Wheeler and Ellerbee.

Short term this may be our worst draft in a long time. I think some of the players mainly PArker and basically only Parker are good long term players but we have basically got nothing in production from this draft.

3rd Down Conversion Rate:

- 2014: Miami ranked #17 out of 32 teams.

- 2015: Miami ranked #31 out of 32 teams.

I had no idea that our ability to convert 3rd downs would completely implode.

We couldnt hide the deficiencies we all knew had at OL, LB and secondary. We thought the DL and WR and QB play would be a cure all. We were left with our pants down in realizing that the DLine, for whatever reason (or defense) still cant stop the run and the vertical offense and run game was still inconsistent. There are a lot of holes to fill and you hope with good coaching, some of the personnel here would work, thus reducing rebuilding
