Bates Must Go!!!!

Fletcher didn't do that bad. He had short zone responsibility and he maintained that. Unfortunately the plays KC was running were deeper and take more time. It was Arturo Freemans responsiblity and he did terrible. Blitzing often would have been the best thing to disrupt thoses passes to Gonzales as they take a long time to develop. Bates lost this game but we didn't play with 100% intensity but had he made any adjustments we would have won.

One of the other things is that Gonzalez and the Chiefs' WRs made some really incredible catches often against good coverage. It wasn't always poor defense, but really good offense.

Part of putting on pressure is good coverage, and since Surtain was out there wasn't as much blanketing WRs as normal, there wasn't great coverage. I'm not sticking up for Bates, he's the Chan Gailey of defenses, but it could have been a different game if Surtain played.

bates sucks..he never makes in-game adjustments...not having surtain also hurt...we got no pass rush from our front 4... we dont have a player to match up against gonzales and we had 5 turnovers...the patriots losing took away some of the sting away from todays loss...

We adjusted before the game by bringing 8 in the box so often. You all were screaming for this after Edge ripped us for 150 yards. We commited to stop the run, and got burnt bad. You have to play the odds though. The thinking was if you gave Trent some rope he woould hang him self, but he didn't! He played a perfect game, and so did many of the Cheifs WRs. With the exception of the 2nd TD to Gonzo it wasn't like these guys were wide open. Directly the opposite their was a man on Gonzo like glue on the other 2 tds and his big gains down the middle. Some times you just catch a QB on great day for him and a horrible day for the defense. Stuff like this just happens in the NFL. Please see the Chargers-Pats game and the Lions-Saints game for proof. You aren't going to be on every game, but if Miami isn't on next week then we can start to worry.

Why blame Bates?? Wannstedt is the head coach and a defensive coach too. If Wanny and Bates didn't agree on defensive philosophy and schemes Bates would have been history. Lets face it, these guys like to rush four, blanket the secondary and wait for mistakes or picks. As we all know even if the D-Line generates no pressure the Dolphin brain trust will not blitz very much preferring to keep to their basic scheme. This worked against Indy but not very well with KC. Any opinion how it will work against the Pats next week??

If we don't pressure Brady next week, it will be exactly the same thing.

Look at when we beat the Pats last year, we pressured Brady and forced mistakes. When we lost, no pressure and turnovers, so we lost.

Absolutely Phinstd. Brady has also added the long pass to his short passing game this year. Seems to me that a disguised and delayed single player blitz would really hurt the inexperienced QB. That was the one blitz that got to Warner in last year's Ram game. Was that Surtain that made that play?? Fletcher has shown he can tackle maybe he is the choice to sit in the slot and than make a sack. The players chosen now to blitz seem awkward and don't slip pass the O-line.

You mean like today?
