Bates out in GB. Any chance Nick brings him back?

:)
Hope there is, but already a thread on this 2 slots up.

Nope. Nick didn't want him last year, and he isn't going to want him this year. He would create too much of a power struggle in the locker room and Saban wouldn't want that. Plus, he wants a HC job, he wouldn't want to commit to the Phins long-term.

That's what I get for having to get up to get another beer and forgetting to hit the "submit reply" button. Merge por favor!

To tell you the truth i hope that Jim Bates interviews for the St.Louis job so that we can keep Linehan.

Can he do that if he resigned? I thought GB would have his rights for the length of the contract he signed last year.

I would love to see Bates back in a miami uniforme. I think he is great
I know you meant to say that you'd like to have him back as a coach, but you said 'in uniform.'

:sidelol: Can you imagine that little old man playing linebacker?

your sig is hilarious... poor dominizzo...

Bates defense is pretty much exactly opposite of what saban likes to run. theres zero to no chance he comes back.

after seeing him bump Arturo Freeman last year at the NE game...yes, I can imagine that little old man in a Fins uni....strangely-but I'd put him at dime corner

Saw that too! I think he has the emotion we need as a player, great leader and heart. But I think he'd be often injured!

Anyway I doubt he comes back too. He probably wouldn't want to step backward any more than we would want to. Not that he's a step down, he's the best! But he's a link to the past we are trying to get away from. Not his fault he worked for Wanny, but he's a link sadly. I think Capers is more likely if we want an upgrade at DC.

Exactly. Bates' runs a 4-3 defense and his philosophy would not work with what Saban is trying to do. As much as I respect Bates, i'd much rather see Dom Capers running our defense next season.

Nope. That would be like Dave Wannstedt hiring Mike Martz as his offensive coordinator.

TOTALLY contrasting styles.

Thats not true. Saban said he would take Bates back, but Bates felt it wouldnt be right to be the d coordinator, then head coach, and then back to d coordinator.
