Be the GM in 05: How do you fix this team?

who's your backup QB? Sage? he's more a deer in headlights than Feeley is, and he KNOWS the system.

and why's everyone saying to trade Surtain? trade MADISON for draft picks and keep Surtain... Surtain's fresher and cheaper at this point.
Surtain has more trade value (especially at this point in his career with his past injuries). The cap is going to be a mess and we need an overhaul like JJ did. I would hate to see Surtain gone but we got rid of a Troy Vincent and eventually ended up with a Sam Madison and a Patrick Surtain.

If we get the 8.6 million from ricky heres what i do:
Restructure the following contracts:
Zach Thomas
Jason Taylor
Chris Chambers
Randy McMichael
Rob Konrad
Draft the following positions:
O-Line in the 1st
O-Line in the 2nd
O-Line in the 3rd
QB and/or RB in the 4th
O-Line and/or RB in the 5th
O-Line in the 6th
O-line and/or K in the 7th
Cut the following players(if they're still on the team):
Travis Minor
Olindo Mare
Offensive Line
Sign key Free Agents in the following position:
O-Line
KR
K
Fire:
Dave Wannstedt

GREAT IDEA...

Scrap the entire Oline for a second seson...that is a great idea...

it's worked so far....

my thoughts are that even if we do draft a newbey from the draft that there is no guarantee he will make an impact...or even start...look at Gallery...THE BEST OLINMAN IN THE DRAFT...this will be the Dolphins achilles heel for many years to come...

I say lets start right now. Trade Freeman and fiedler for picks and let the young guys be the depth. Look into trading Surtain but only for above market value.
At the end of the season fire the coaching staff and bring an OFFENSIVE MINDED HEAD COACH.(ala Tampa in 2002).
Spielman gets one more year.
Then we shall see after letting the young guys play the rest of the year where we go in the draft. DL,OL,RB are my choices right now with QB and best avilable to round it out.
If Feeley is not the guy then I would look at a guy like Gannon or Brad Johnson to come in and start.

Coaching staff:
Everyone gone except Bates
OL coach from ATL (I believe he was in Denver before that)
Art Shell as HC

Release or trade:
Surtain
Madison
Feely
Seau
Knight

Draft:
Trade down from top 5 pick for a mid teen and 20something
Get 2 OL with first rounders
3rd round QB
4th round OL
5th round WR
6th round DT
7th round DT and OL

i wouldn't cut Mare... the kicker position is VERY thin in the FA right now, so you are stuck with what you have.

a whole lot of you guys are saying people to draft in each round.... does no one remember we only have a first, third, fifth, and seventh rounder left????

I'm not sure how you go about doing it, but I'd start with this....

Fire Wanny / Speilman. Start from scratch up top....

Find a new HC {don't know who}, and a proven GM {R. Mueller / ect ect}.

Dismantle the overpriced defense. Use the PB defensive players for draft picks, and find some good replacements....

On offense, it's alittle different. The OL needs a complete overhaul, start there. Right now, I wouldn't keep any of them. Not even OG J. James. They all suck as far as I'm concerned....

The WR's corps is excellent, and the TE's corps is very good.

At QB, it's tough. I'd actually keep AJ Feeley and S. Rosenfels. Let them battle it out for the back-up position. I'd dump Fielder, and try and get something in return for him. FIND A LEGIT STARTING QB....

If we can just find a top shelf HC and a GM, things will eventually improve IMO. Wayne needs to make a decision, and make the right decision. He needs to fire Wanny and Spielman, and get better personel in here to run the show.

That's just the start. From there, we're still in for a long haul in a rebuilding mode. It's for the best really. If nothing changes, "nothing changes"....

PHINZ RULE!!!

How to fix this team.....
1. Get a "franchise" Qb...Our 1st rd pick has to be a QB if AJ continues to be a flop.
2. Go after Jonas Jennings from the Buffalo Bills-He's a good olinemen and would help this team out alot, the Bills most likely won't retain him.
3. If Feeley's a flop, bring back Jay, I know this will be an unpopular move but we're gonna need a veteran to have around.
4. Bring in some youth on the Dline
5. Bring in either Jim Fassel, Norm Chow, Tom Moore, or Charlie Weis-An offensive minded head coach
6. Overhaul the offensive coaching staff-too many different philosophies
7. I really believe this team will have the tools to run a spread offense next season and play very much like the Bucs of the past and the Colts, Look at who our top 3 Wr's are, and McMike we should be able to spread teams out.
8. Keep defensive "leaders" Taylor, Thomas, Madison, Bowens around

I think if some of these things are done this team will be atleast watchable, I don't know if this team will score 20 pts in a single game all year

If I were the GM:
Coaching staff:
Fire Wanny
Fire Wise
Fire Armstrong
Demote Forester to TE coach
Vigorously persue Charlie Weis for head coach & GM (he must know talent)
Demote Rick to old job

Players
Cut:
W.Smith
St. Clair
Gordon
Lee

Trade/Cut:
Freeman
Madison
Moore
Robinson

Draft:
Quarterback
Guard
RB (no higher than third because of potential Edge signing)
DT (our boys are really good, but they brake a lot)
OLB
SS

Back
Top Bottom
