John Beck was interviewed by a local (Utah) NBC station KSL last night and the reporter asked him when he thinks a decision will be made on the starting QB and john said that he was told that it will be the third preseason game. He also said that he was told last year that he wasn't going to see any playing time during the season but after the bye week Cam came to him and told him to start getting ready, before that he was strictly running other teams plays and had not even run one of the plays out of the playbook. He says that he feels that he has passed all of Bill's and Tony's tests and that he was told it will come down to who makes the plays and scores touchdowns. He is in town doing a football camp at provo high school with cameron jensen who played for the seahawks last year and i signed my son up to go, it's the 14th and 15th of july, see if i can get some more info out of him.

If that is what he said, he regurgitates the company line pretty well. Just about everything he said had already been said to the media directly by Tony Sparano, although Sparano did further clarify the 3rd preseason game quote and say that in a perfect world they'd like to know by that 3rd preseason game but he doesn't really expect this to be a perfect situation to where they truly know the outcome by then.

I think we'll be in bad shape if we don't have our starter nailed down by that third game as that is the only preseason game that has any semblance of a real game.

Just Curious; EauGallie was it on SportsBeat? I missed it but usually avoid ch 5.

It does sound like Beck is towing the company line.

It also sounds like my worst fear... the local media (here in UT) hoping on the phins bandwagon.

well what else would you expect him to say...or even want him to say

It doesn't really matter that much. It takes however long it takes, and how you do in any of the preseason games, even the 3rd one, really doesn't have a whole lot of bearing on how well you do for the season.

He could offer more color about how certain players looked during camp, if one or two guys really impressed him, how well he's done, etc. There's a rumor going around that he only threw one interception in all OTAs and Mini-Camps combined, and it would sure be nice to see him confirm or deny that (implicitly or explicitly). He could offer more color on the process they went through to fix his mechanical issues.

It wasn't wrong of him to tow the company line, it just amounts to an interview that doesn't offer the fans much in the way of new information or fresh perspective, that's all.

I did a quick search on KSL's website and was able to locate the show. The interview starts about 55 seconds into the "Sport's Beat" broadcast.

It was a good interview. I like this kid. I also like Henne. I really believe one of these two are going to pan out.

I certainly hope so. It would be more beneficial for Henne to be the one that pans out, since he's younger. But, beggars can't be choosers and from what I know of the two players, Beck seems like the guy more likely to pan out.

Well, I didn't know that until after the bye, he hadn't even run one play out of the playbook in practice. Then he is thrown in there with no playmakers in the awful weather in Pittsburgh, with even worse turf.

That may have been the toughest indoctrination in the history of the NFL for a young QB given all the circumstances surrounding his debut.

Good interview. HOpe his intuition about him knowing that he belonged at both BYU and now the Fins proves true. Watched the Brady Poppinga interview that followed regarding the camp he, his dad and our Kelly are running for children. Also hope Kelly works out for the Fins...and turns out to be the high character guy his brother apparently is.

I didn't hear Beck mention anything about not using the Fins playbook during practice. Was there more to the interview? Where did you hear this?

Reason I ask is that I believe Beck is our future QB. He has the ability and is definitely putting in the time during the offseason to improve. This would explain why he didn't do much his first few games. Then once Cameron decided to open up the playbook, one which he didn't use until a few weeks prior, he seemed a bit confused and was more concerned with blitz then with his reads.

This kid has multiple offensive coordinators while at BYU and excelled with every oen of them. I think we see a completely different Beck come preseason.
