Beck's ability at QB has to be determined

I think they already know Beck isnt the answer. Which is why they drafted Henne. McCown was brought in to hold it down in the case that Henne isnt ready right away. Why was the statement even made that no one can see the phins winning a title with McCown. No one expects the team to win the title this season and McCown wasnt brought here to take us there. Henne was drafted for that job.

sounds pretty accurate to me.. I believe that miami drafted john beck because, he was the best available quarterback. Just like I believe that ted ginn was the best available playmaker on offense. Miami was an all defense team. They were nothing short of dismal on offense. Now, we have a unproven nucleus. John beck, ronnie brown, vernon carey, jake long, samson satele, and ted ginn.. along with anthony fasano, who i think is going to be our Tight end for years to come. that to me sounds like a start of something truely great.. the potential of these players reminds me of what shottenheimer was given his first year as the chargers coach... this team is going to grow into something great... If its beck or if its henne is to be seen soon enough..

That article is right on the mark with regard to the QBs.

I think Hyde exaggerates the lack of talent a bit. No team has all superstars. There are a number of additional players that are solid and will remain on the team (Will Allen, Jason Allen, Yeremiah Bell, Joey Porter, Vonnie Holliday). The team has also quickly brought in an influx of talent. This year will depend on the play of the OL and the defense. How long have we been saying that?

The biggest issue is that there is so much unproven talent. There is no way that all of the new acquisitions will work out. The question is how many will? They have more talent than last year. If all of the new moves work out, they could easily be 9-7. If too many don't, they could be 3-13. Split the difference and plan on 6-10.

BTW, what's with the depth chart at NFL.com. Those guys should be ashamed of themselves. There are a lot of players missing (Smiley, Langford, Crocker)

This hits the nail on the head:

Beck's public stock has dropped to the point McCown has become the people's choice. That's silly.

And "silly" may be generous.

I mean, if Josh McCown is the answer, I'm not sure I want to know the question...

agreed. i hope mccown never sees the field.

Yes....they already know that Beck isn't the answer. That's why he's still on the team.

By your logic....they drafted Kendall Langford on day 2. because they already knew that Phillip Merling was not the answer.

beck and henne are the only 2 qbs i want to see take a snap in a regular season game. there is no upside with josh mccown.

If McCown does better at TC than Beck then he should get the job because he won it. Cant understand why people are so against McCown, its an open competition and I want to see the player who deserves it from their preformance at TC get it, whether it be McCown or Beck.

Beck is a bit of an anomoly. One of the first things parcells said when he took over was that Beck shoud've never seen the field last year. That a rookie QB should always ride the pine. But we all here were clamouring for Beck. Myself included.

I've learned my lesson. No matter how bad things get I will never want the rook in there again expecting him to be a saviour. i think last year was a great learning experience for Beck, and at the very least he'll be an excellent backup in the league.. and hopefully for us since we drafted him. But i can see us trading him down the line if he doesn't mature as a starter.

I for one want Beck to start because I think for one, we've improved the pass protection immensely, and we'll have a better running attack. Teams will still blitz the hell out of us until we can prove we can counter it.. thats just a fact of the game. I think with a little confidence, Beck will be as good as any QB we've brought in since Fiedler.

If you don't have a QB on the roster (somebody that has proven themselves that is) you'd be smart to take a QB in the draft. The point being that drafting Henne could mean that Beck hasn't accomplished the job yet, not that he won't.

Oh yeah, I'm sure they know that Beck isn't the answer based on his performance as a rookie on a terrible team. I think that was a great measuring stick.

LMFAO. Zzzing!

A popular thought is that Henne is the quarterback of the future simply because Parcells drafted him. The better thought is the quarterback of the future is anyone who can do the job.

I liked this quote from the article. It is what I believe.
