Strengths:
Is very accurate...Arm strength is adequate...Great touch and timing...Very smart and mature...Has a quick release...Gamer who steps up under pressure...Moves well and can hurt a defense with his feet...Tough and competitive...A leader with top-notch intangibles...Was extremely productive...Had a terrific senior campaign.

Weaknesses:
Shorter than you would prefer...A bit older than the average prospect...Statistics were inflated by the Cougars wide-open attack...Will have to adjust to a pro style offense...Doesn't see the field well...Has too many passes knocked down...There are questions about his delivery...Struggles going downfield...Durability...Upside?

Notes:
Served a Church mission in Lisbon, Portugal from 2000-2002...His father, Wendell, participated in track & field at BYU...Married with a young child...Excellent college player who is not the pro prospect his press clippings lead you to believe...Has a chance to play in the pros but he profiles as a backup or #3 signal caller at best.

i know even the best prospects have weakness but these are serious ones, maybe too much to overcome at the pro level.

Culpepper is fine and will be ready to go at the beginning of the season.

we didnt draft this kid with the 40th pick to sit the bench for years, he will eventually have to start, im just curious if hes capable or not.

anyone have any tape on this guy?

I always hate it when someone says he plays like "so and so" but, the strengths column sounds like Tom Brady with a little scrambling ability.

The only real weakness is height and that isnt the worst thing in the world. It mentions his stats being padded by his system but, we didnt draft his stats. We took him based on how he plays. The age I see as a strength and not a weakness. It also mentions will have to adjust to a pro system but, thats not a weakness thats just part of evolving. I feel with his intelligence and maturity that shouldnt be a problem. Mentions mechanics but in strengths says he has a quick release and the ball is accurate. It also says passes batted down but, that is redundant....goes to his height. So basically he has all of those strengths and the one weakness they came up with was his height. I think were gonna be golden here.

he is taller than drew brees

Not just that but he's Jay Fiedler's height.

I NEVER saw anyone ever say anything about's Jay's height while playing with us.

His problem was his weak arm. Never his height.

Marino was 6'4, no?

Thats not that big a difference. So I dont know why scouts and whatnot mention his height.

He's fine in that area. We'll see how his arm is when the action starts for real in July.

The only thing I would disagree is on the field vision. The video I have seen of him, it looks like he has good field vision and he seems to always be looking down field, that is a good sign. Other than that the only negative they had on him was his height (6'2 i believe) and age. Neither to me are huge deals and shouldn't keep him from being a starter. I think he has potential to be a good starting QB and at worst a very dependable backup.

Arm strength is adequate? I guess that 70 yard Hail Mary he threw in that youtube video qualifies as adequate.

Funny how they say he doesn't see the field well when Jaworski was raving about his field awareness.

Struggles going downfield? He was the QB in 2004 when BYU had the biggest deep threat receiver and biggest deep threat offense. They moved to a shorter passing game after that, which may be where this comes from. Still, that was a change in the offense, his arm didn't just suddenly get weaker.

I'm not sure NFLDraftCountdown scouted this guy too thoroughly.

EDIT:
Originally the only thing that bothered me was his age, but I've realized its not that big a deal. For one thing, he wasn't playing football during that time he was on that church mission so his body wasn't taking a pounding. I'm not a baseball fan, but it seems to me that its common for a pitcher to play well into his 40's, whereas most QB's fade away in their mid-30's. This is despite the fact that pitchers play more often, throw 3-4 times the number of balls, and put more of their body into each pitch. The difference is the hitting. So those extra 3 years that Beck has may not actually mean he's any closer to retirement.

From Scouts.com....

Analysis: A signal caller with excellent intangibles and field vision, Beck could effectively back up in a West Coast offense.

Biography:Three-year starter named Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year in ‘06 after career totals of 69.3%/3,885/32/8. All-Conference and All-Academic selection as a junior when he totaled 3,709 yards passing with 27 touchdowns strikes.
Pos::
Intelligent passer accurate in the short and intermediate field. Stands strong in the pocket, poised under the rush and consistently finds the open wideout. Sells the ball fakes, looks off the safety and goes through receiver progressions. Displays a sense of timing, hits receivers as they leave their breaks and nicely sets up screen throws. Puts touch on passes when necessary, placing the ball into the receivers’ hands. Immediately gets rid of the ball on quick tosses. Stays away from the errant pass.
Neg::
Lacks the top deep arm. Over-aged prospect.

Only see the age as negative, and deep arm strength, though he has shown good arm strength on some videos...

so the scouting reports can change for the better or worst...

Here is the Scouts on Quinn...

Analysis: Possessing the size, arm strength and intangibles to be a starter at the next level, Quinn is an incredibly productive college quarterback who translates well to the next level. Comes off a poor senior campaign and needs to refocus, fine-tune his decision-making and play within himself.
Biography:Four-year starter who Pos:ted 61.9%/3,426/37/7 as a senior. Junior totals included a career-high 3,919 passing yards, a Notre Dame single-season record.
Pos:
Nice-sized, strong-armed pocket passer with a great amount of upside. Patient, calm under pressure and buys time for receivers. Gets outside the pocket to give himself a better view of the field, has a quick, over-the-top delivery and immediately gets the ball out of his hand. Zips the outs,

Pos:
Posses a good deep arm and drives passes into the tight spots. Flashes the ability to beautifully place throws where only his target can make the reception. Consistently challenges the vertical game. Puts touch on throws when necessary.
Neg:
At times stares the primary target down from the get-go. Not adverse to forcing the throw into coverage. Makes some head-scratching decisions at times. Not an elusive quarterback who escapes the rush. Marginally accurate throwing on the move and downfield. Leadership abilities are in question.

So the negatives for both are shown by scout...just that one has more negative to write about than the other...guess who that is???

This report does seem to contrast with some of the others I've seen. Most sounded pretty favorable.

its a free draft website their info is good but their scouting reports cant be trusted. Chris Mortensen said that he has a group of scouts that know qbs and for years thats where hes gotten his qb info from cuz they are usually always right and they seem to think that Beck is gonna be a really good qb and could be the best from this draft.
