I'd just like to set the record straight about Beck's height and the O-Line. People want to make a big deal about saying Beck is too short, and "can't see over the line" and all that rubbish.

Rubbish, I say. And here's why. Take a comparrison of BYU's O-Line in '06 vs the current Dolphins line.

Here you go:

BYU - '06
Sete Aulai (Center) 6'1" (Smallest on the line)
Travis Bright - 6'5"
Rey Feinga - 6'5"
Eddie Keele - 6'6"
David Oswald - 6'8" (Look for him next year in the draft)
Dallas Reynolds - 6'5"
Jason Speredon - 6'5"

See a theme? 6'5" BYU has, and its commented on ALL the time by media, one of the largest lines in the West. That's the WHOLE West.

Here's your '08 Phins
Byrne - 6'5"
Murphy - 6'4"
Setele - 6'3"
Smiley - 6'3"
Thomas - 6'4"
Heerspinh - 6'6"
Long - 6'7"

The current phins are NO bigger than BYU's line in 06. And we know what Beck did with that line. Just became the #2 throwing QB in BYU history.

Beck, too small? For this team? :sidelol:

Flame away, but height is height. Talk all about how BYU is a small school in a no-name conference. That doesn't change the FACTS.

good post....his stature is still a concern for me but i think the man has the moxie to get it done and become a player

its a gimmick offense at byu. also vic carucci just said on wqam that beck has "mechanical problems". its not beck's height, its his side-arm release that is the problem.

why is everyone saying that beck throws side arm all of a sudden.. is bad as that is i would think it would have been recognized by the scouts before. the scouting reports i read say nothing about throwing sidearm

the "problem" that coach Lee had Beck throw 6000+ passes that has basically been corrected?

carucci said beck has mechanical problems. he didn't specify what problems they were but there are reports he is still struggling to get the ball over the line. besides coach lee is an overrated coach. how many qb busts went through dallas before they got lucky that sean payton found romo?

I've already slammed that idea in other posts. No need to go over it again.

A Gimmick offense, does not run 49% of the time, which BYU did in '06 and even thereafter. Look up the stats before spouting out inaccurate descriptions.

Besides, Gimmick offenses rely on trick plays, etc. BYU straight up beats teams with execution.

(And who the heck is Vic Carucci? Another media mogul? I'll trust the word of coaches over the media any day)

Yawn....zzz.....zzz.....zzz.....

IN TUNA WE TRUST!!!

Yeah, if that's your response, there must be no dispute from you. FACT is, Beck had no problems throwing over a LARGER line while in college. Even with his "bad mechanics" developed due to a shoulder seperation his sophmore year.

Dismiss it all you want, good sir. Doesn't change what is. Throwing over large lines is the least of Beck's problems. He may have others, but this "size" discussion is really stupid. And anyone bringing it up is just ignorant and hasn't done ANY amount of research on it.

I was never concerned with his height. The balls that get knocked down at the line are more a product of his release not height. He loved to drop that arm down and fling it. I was always concerned about his bulk, he looked super skinny last year. The fact that he has put on 10 pounds of muscle really will help....that said Mccown is the starter

Both Beck and Henne are listed at 6'2" so if this is a problem for beck(I don't know why it would be?) then why in't it a problem for Henne?

It isnt a problem for either. It wasnt a problem for Favre or McNair, it isnt a problem for Brees, Warner, McNabb, Garcia, Garrard, Delhomme, etc etc etc.

The idea that its a problem is really ridiculous. We have more than enough of a sample size of successful nfl qbs that are 6'2" or shorter.
