I don't profess to be an expert at this but it seems to me that being a HC in the NFL is ALOT more than being successful at running good offenses or defenses on other teams. I mean, do you guys know anything about the character of Cam Cameron? Is he carasmatic enough to run an NFL team? These days HCs have to be better 'shrinks' than great football minds and that is being proven these days as most asssitants who become HCs are not doing so well.
I personally do not know well enough the character of any assistants to make an educated guess as to who might fit and I guess most of the fans here don't either.
It is going to take a coach with a very strong personality now to make everyone forget the past, get this team glued back together and believing in him and get the Dolphins winning again quickly. That's why I don't endorse J Bates at this time. Great football mind maybe, low on carisma and we need a guy to come in and REALLY take charge. It's a cliche I know but sometimes cliches fit.

Cameron adjusts well to what he has. He's put not one, but two QBs into the pro bowl in back to back years. Hes partially responsible for LT's hall of fame numbers, and he's done this all with a pretty NON-threatening recieving core.

Put him with a defensive coordinator who knows what hes doing (Capers) and get him a solid GM (which im hoping we get, or we might have in mueller) and he can be very successful. Look at the saints. Sean Payton was question the same way and hes done pretty well.

But that's exactly what I mean. I am sure he is very accomplished at what he has benn doing but the next step to HC is a whole new ball game! What if we get Terrell Owens or somebody with a similar ego? Can he handle those guys? Can he keep the R Wiiliams of the worls happy? Can he convince JT not to retire! Can he keep the team from bowing under when it's on a two game loosing skid?
Payton has done it sure, but what about Childress and Marinelli and Crennel, they didn't get the same results because I don't think, although great at their assistants positions, don't have what it takes for the HC position which requires abilities they don't fully develop as assistants.

All of the 3 coaches you named, their team's do not have near the talent we do!!!!!! And we beat 2 out of the 3 this year!!!!

I am not referring to the quality but the coaches themselves. The HCs for those three teams should not be there but they were successful assistants.
What I am saying is being a successful assistant, no matter how good, does not make you a home run for a HC job and Miami doesn't need any experiments right now rather someone with suficient character to step in, realise the dangerous situation there is here and not only be willing to accpet but being able resolve it.

Offensive and defensive coordinators have to shrinks as well. They deal with the players on a more individual basis than the head coaches.
The only recent assistant not having success at the moment is Romeo Cromell in Cleveland.

I Wouldn't Say Marinelli And Childress Had Successful Seasons!
