Bill Belichick used psychology in yesterday's game in Foxborough Mass.!
Because he was in a no win situation.

If Miami had beat the Patriots with their first stringers in, that would have set the boo birds to nipping on his azz, while damaging his players confidence. Plus with them heading into the playoff's it was possible, someone vital to the team could have gotten hurt.

And it must be noted that It also would have played right into Nick Saban's hand. A loss with the first stringers in would have helped Miami's mental toughness going into next, while damaging New Englands.

Therefore he played the only hand he could. That is why he didn't care about the seeding. He was more concerned about the above factors... One thing you can say about him is that he isn't dumb!

It is going the be fun watching the chess match between him and Nick Saban over the upcoming years.

Edit:

Oh yeah. It's funny how the media and the players all jumped right into his trap... LOL ..."Well they beat New england BUT, wink wink it was only the second stringers...

exactly my reasoning also

The last thing the Patriots needed was to see their first string lose to a division rival, the Phins, right before going into the playoffs. Belichick did the right thing in sitting his starters and not taking the chance.

Unfortunately your right...to bad though I would have loved to have seen it!

You made a good point. I felt he didn't want to have the Dolphins beat his 1st team because of the psychological advantage he could give them for next season. I don't think it's going to work though because the Dolphins will dethrone them. Hey, we should have won that game down here earlier too.

I bet Gerard and the Jags will play scared in Foxboro next week......BUT I don't see the Pats getting by the Colts or the Bengals or the Broncos....they are all relatively healthy and hungrier.

I think he lost for another reason also- to avoid playing pittsburgh. With the form that the steelers are in right now, if i was the pats i would much rather prefer playing the jags in foxboro than the steelers.

That "is" a good point.
I don't know if it relates, but Belichick did look a bit out of his usual stature, the way he was laughing at Flutie's field goal. Given it came at our expense, a simple smirk alone, would of been the expected response.
People who typically tend to be reserved with their emotion, often over express, when attempting to fake it.
Infact, Belichick seemed more taken by that, than when they won the Superbowl!
Additionally, there was an uncharactaristic air of carefree nonchalance about it, clearly they had more to lose, than we did.

It ended up working out alot better for them interms of seeding anyway, IMO... Jax is overrated and I would much rather face them in the playoffs than the Steelers...

I'm going to go large here and say Jacksonville win vs NE. In fact, I won't be surprised if they go to the AFC Championship game to play Denver.

Well that would explain the, "uncharactaristic air of carefree nonchalance"

please....it's not as if they cleaned out clock in the first meeting....

If the patsies need a refersher.....just remind them what a 2-10 team did to a 11-1 team (I believe that was their record last year) or that 9 out of the last 10 games have been pretty darn close and that they still have only won, what, 1 game in our house over how many years now?

I agree with the point of this thread and it's implications. I also would like to know just how many "starters" actually didn't play a significant portion of the game.

It will backfire, as anybody who is on this team next year will remember the disrespect, and play that much harder to embarrass the pats next year.
