Ben Volin: Nice Article-Opinons from Associates who know him

I must say Philbin has league wide respect and I think this is just what we needed after all the years of negativity.

He has a dry wit, a wry and sometimes sarcastic sense of humor along with a no-ego kindness that becomes clear in the first few moments of knowing him. We would talk about topics far beyond football, as he possesses a large and diverse world-view.

Something I really like about this guy. He's a learned guy and a person who exists outside of football.

Halas and Landry had engineering degrees. Marv Levy, English Literature. Belichick, Economics. Being a head coach is a tough job, you've got to know how to manage people, manage an organization, and manage details. Smart guys from diverse backgrounds who have a broad pool of knowledge from outside of the sport, these are guys who have a great chance to be successful.

Now, I know that Bill Walsh and Don Shula both mastered in physical education, but these are guys that were very, very successful outside of football. Shula's been wildly successful in private business, and Walsh actually taught graduate level classes at freaking Stanford.

I'm real excited that we have moved on from a guy who can barely form a coherent sentence to an actual human being.

Listening to Tony speak was downright painful

Amen.

Other than Bellichick, listening to most coaches overusing the usual metaphors and analogies makes me cringe.

So far, I've heard Philbin describes as calm, cerebral, able to talk about a wide range of subjects outside football w/ a dry, sarcastic sense of humor. I like it.

If the team reflects the HC then the phins are in good shape.
