Why should we? He's been the best option at QB since Marino. He didn't have it Sunday. He's played poorly 2 times out of 6 starts, this team could and should be 4-2. There is no reason to do that right now. He's always been the bounce back type and unless this team has no shot at .500, Henne should only see playing time if the game is completely out of reach. Let him learn. Don't throw the kid out there now. It's been ridiculous to read all the anti-Pennington remarks after he had 3 awesome outtings before having one mediocre one. Give it up, let him do what he was brought in to do. He has so far. He'll be just fine. Henne will get his turn.

i agree its too early for Henne.

but Pennington deserves his criticism too.

It's insane how much I find myself defending the guy... He deserves more respect for the season he is having so far... First it was... 'He will kill the running game' and now it is 'he is hurting Ted Ginn'....

I really think alot still have a hard time with him simply because he was a JET all those years.

One thing you have to consider is whether or not Henne is the future for Miami at QB. It could very well be that the coaches and ownership don't view him as that guy, and a priority will be to secure a long-term QB in the off-season or with the draft, based on what they see every single day in practice. I'm not at all nay-saying Henne, but i can tell you the EXACT same arguments were made at this time last year for Beck, and where are the cry-out's for him at this point??? Henne has done nothing, granted he hasn't been given a chance. You have to realize that Coach S. wants to win, desperately, so if he thought Henne gave him the better chance, he wouldn't hesitate. There is no conspiracy here. Consider all the facts.

i dont know if i agreee with benching him or not but if we do we cant go to henne, i say beck.

Pennington does deserve his criticism. Although he is playing decent and is being very efficient at completing passes but who is he completing them to? Short dink passes, that is why he is being stats look good. he would rather dump it off them pass it to a guy 1 on 1. He is missing wide open guys and dumping it off. He has no deep ball and therefore the safeties are cheating up and stuffing the run and the dump offs. You put beck in and he has a decent long ball, so they wont be able to cheat up.

you guys have to remember we are not a playoff team so we have to get off the playoff picture and just focus on winning a few more games and getting our young talent developed

It depends on what we want. If we want to win maybe 7 games and get a mid round pic and get Henne no experience, we can continue to start Pennington. If we want to win a little less this year, but get our future started and get Henne some experience we start him. There is no upside what so ever to keeping Penny at QB, unless you are an avocate of not rushing Henne in. We are going no where with Penny. He is a great guy, a good leader, a good mentor, but his arm strength impacts the running game (our strength), the passing game, the play calling, and how long the D is on the field. His inability to pick up 3rd downs is becoming embarassing. I don't give 2 f&*ks about his 68% completion percentage or his 90 something QB rating. Those are good personal numbers in a team sport. Anybody who has a clue can tell his arm strength is a huge concern, no if ands or buts.

I don't think it has to do with him being a former JET, I think it has to do with Dolphins fans getting a first hand look at Pennington and realizing that the criticism of him may be more than just fan bias.

Pennington is smart, accurate and a great game manager but he is still limited in what he can do. At some point, whether it's for show or not, he will have to throw a deep pass to loosen up the defense.

67Stang - great post. I am asking this question only out of curiousity. How did you feel about the 68% completion% when we were 2-2? I only ask this because I was the first guy to tell people how you can win if you avoid mistakes. Obviously the gift-pass to Suggs was an enormous mistake, but take that away, Pennington has played better than any QB I've seen since Marino. I would have to be sold on Henne's arm strength, before dismissing CP. I'm only pointing out that the emotions change after back-to-back losses, where special teams single-handedly lost the Hou game (IMO), and the game yesterday probably indeed falls on CP's shoulders. If I flip the game on Sunday and find out a surprise announcement that Henne is starting, I'll be the first to admit I'd be extremely "interested"... but at the same time... if you are the head coach of the team, you see these guys every day, and you know who you want behind center, so I'm still dubious on starting Henne - not because I think we can make the playoffs with CP, but because I'm not sure Henne is the future, period.

completely agree. We finally have a quarterback who isnt either got a f***ed up knee or a concussion, or who is just down right bad like beck and feeley. He is one of the most accurate qbs in nfl history and was in the pro bowl only three years ago. If its the pick touchdown every one is complaining about, then look at it this way: if he had taken a sack everyone would have complained that he should have thrown it, and if it were completed, he would be a hero. So he has one 'bad' game. At this point hes a better option than Henne. but henne will be good when his time comes.

The wildcat won the NE game. Penny played pretty good against the Bolts. I don't hate Penny, he is a good dude. It is just really obvious what I see. You can't win on a consistant basis in the NFL having to go 12-15 plays each scoring drive. When I watch the games, I see Ginn getting open a lot, I mean a lot! I am looking for it. Penny can't get him the ball period because of his arm. Our whole offensive game plan would open up if we had a QB that could go deep. We won 1 game last year, so a lot of people may be happy with 7 wins. I am interested in the future, and that is not Penny.

Myabe it comes down to a definition of the 'deep' ball... He torched the deep middle of the Chargers defence at will... Maybe he cant throw 70 in the air but I see no issues 20-40 yds.

every one knows pennington is not the future, henne is, but we need a solid starter to give us a few W's. I think his arm strength has got to do with his past shoulder injuries. But when henne plays, he will be able to hit Ginn on the long ones. I just dont want to see henne thrown to the wolves like beck last year.

Is it really saying much when people say that Pennington has been the best QB since Marino?

well, its not exactly true either.

Jay Fiedler got us to the playoffs. The QB who does that next will earn that title imo.
