Bengals | Team still not able to land Harrington
Thu, 6 Apr 2006 18:30:44 -0700
<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/127">Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports league sources suggest the Cincinnati Bengals are prepared to pay Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington about $2 million in a one-year deal and have offered a sixth-round draft pick in a trade with the Lions. The Lions apparently want a better pick than the Bengals are offering.

Hey it worked, good job, thanks for the info.

Wow 2 mil for 1 year and a 6th
We were gonna do a 2-year deal right and a 7th?

when will the Lions wake up?

they've painted themselves into a corner

A Bengals fan I know and I have come up with a theory that they may have set this all up with an eye toward using Harrington as ammo to trade up with Miami or Cincy if the right situation arises during the draft. You have to give Millen a lot of credit for setting up such a flexible situation to believe that, which is the weakest part of the theory.

I think the Lions might be in danger of overvaluing Harrington. The guy will never be a quality starter anywhere so the question becomes how much value do you place on a back-up with confidence issues, who costs 2 million a year and requires a high 6th rounder?? Would Rattay cost that much? Or Martin? Or do they come with as much baggage? I think ol' Matt Millen might have put his head in the vice this time, instead of his calcified elbow (for those who don't know what I'm referring to, it's an old story from Millen's days as a high school recruit).

It's hard for any team to get Harrington right now. They are asking way too much for him in return and nobody is dumb enough to give up a 1st day pick like they are asking. JJ could be right, but I don't think Millen is smart enough to do something like that.

they wont. you shouldn't be surprised. worst management and taken for a joke so negotiating and playing your cards like our team is not in their blood since the barry sanders era so why change now?

why not just do this now then:

detroit sends us Harrington, their 5th and 7th for our 4th

they should take this deal and like it

The reason not to do it is because they're not sure when (or if) the situation would arise where they'd like to trade up. It could be in the 1st round (when they'd have to trade back a serious pick in addition to their 2nd), the 2nd round, the 3rd round, or the 4th round. If this theory is right, they want the option open if they see something attractive.

they are on crack if they think they can use Harrington to trade during the draft

trading up and down is hard enough when you have every team as a potential trade partner

if you limit yourself to just 2 teams, then forget it

you think that Saban and Mueller are gonna give 2 seconds of attention to this on draft day?

if this is true, no wonder the Lions keep sucking year after year

Do u all honestly think that Harrington is worth 2 million?

2 million is the going rate for a backup not named Martin, Banks, Maddox, and other really crappy QB's

If I thought this was part of a plot to trade down, I'd agree with you. This is about trading up. Trading up is easy.

I think the only danger is that both teams fix the QB situation with the likes of Maddox and Martin before the draft.

detroit sends us Harrington, their 5th and 7th for our 4th

this is a perfect trade for both sides

the Phins gain a pick, and the Lions(if you consider the value chart) get equitable points
