I noticed that Anderson didn't start last night's game. Does anyone know why? How did we look at RG w/o him in the game? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

Held him out because we couldn't afford to have another RG get hurt before the opener. He'll start against Pittsburgh.

I dont think he was held out because of injury, because he was dressed and on the sidelines.

Joe Berger started and looked alright. Same as before, good pass protection, unremarkable run blocking, but Sammy Morris didnt look so hot in general. When he was hurt Tony Pape took over with the starters.

I'm extremely doubtful that is why we held him out. I think it has alot more to do with him being jaw-droppingly bad.

I guess the real questions are:
1. Is Anderson our starting RG?
2. Is anybody happy with that?
3. Was Berger being looked at to start before he got injured?
4. Pape??

5. Just who the heck is our RG!!??

(1) For now.
(2) Not really.
(3) Probably.
(4) Only if Toledo isn't ready to go soon.
(5) Toledo as soon as he is healthy and back up to speed.

1. Too bad.
2. See #1
3. Wow, we're desperate.
4. Wow, really desparate!
5. Glimmer of hope. Hope you're right.

Berger got the snaps to see how he does against higher quality competition because he's going to be relied on heavily at some point this year and he's an unheralded UDFA that didnt make the roster last year. They needed to make sure the dude wouldn't embarrass himself if asked to block Richard Seymour or Vince Wilfork at some point.

In that way I would say with near certainty that they were NOT putting him with the 1's to see if he should start over Anderson. Fact of the matter is a quality backup has to be able to play against the league's best.

Berger was a 6th rd pick by Carolina last year. We signed him off the Panthers PS I think.

Last night during the game they showed the starting line up and he was on there, and they said Saban wasn't going to play the starters.

So CK, what's your assessment of Anderson and the RG position as a whole? Is Bennie truly "jaw-droppingly bad" (love that quote!) or were there extenuating circumstances? What would our depth chart at RG look like right now based on what you've seen?

Not rocket science here. He didn't start because he's no good and they wanted to give Berger the chance to start. Then Berger got hurt and they threw in Pape and gave him a chance to start because... bennie's no good.

I watched Nick's Press Conf. today I don't think any of the reporters asked him specifically about Anderson's job security prior to Berger going down. Did any starters on the o-line play?

No, they rested.
