I'm just curious why people keep talking about how Ginn gets manhandled at the line and can't get open while nothing like this is said about Bess. Ginn has 3 catches for 26 yards and Bess has 3 catches for 21 yards. I know that Ginn was a top ten pick and so far he has been a disappointment but why is his play critiqued so differently than Bess' when at this point they are both starting with a blank slate?

This thread isn't about who is meeting or not meeting expectations. When they are both on the field that have put up the same production so why is it that Ginn can't get open when Bess apparently can?

because its cool to hate Ginn. And, inversely, very cool to like Bess.

Neither has done anything to merit hate or love really. Ones praise for making the team...the others hated for being drafted so high, as if he drafted himself and offered his own contract.

You answered your own question. It is because Ginn was the #9 pick while Bess was an UFA. That's where the frustration comes from. Given this team's recent history and curious draft choices/personnel moves it's hard to accept minimal contributions from guys we've invested so much in. If Bess didn't work out, no big deal. If Ginn doesn't (whether or not Quinn ever winds up being good), it sets us way back. At this point I think we all just desperately want to see him succeed so he's a sensitive subject.

But I hear he may have a future at safety so there may be hope yet...:beer1:

It's fine to say that he was a reach but it's ridiculous when people complain about Ginn's play on the field only because of his draft position. Bess has done nothing to show that he is a better receiver than Ginn. People want production but Bess hasn't given it yet.

At this point Ginn can't be undrafted. If he doesn't live up to his draft status but still becomes a good NFL receiver then that will help the team. It seems to me that the cool thing around here is trash certain players. I would rather not take enjoyment out of our players not playing well.

Bess is a rookie with 2 games under his belt, Ginn is not.... For that matter Ginn has played so poorly that he is not even getting on the field...

People love diamonds in the rough. Especially here on finheaven. If Bess is the slightest bit successful he will be greatly overrated here on finheaven. Get used to it.

I'm beginning to wonder if poor play has anything to do with getting on the field or not under the present administration. Ronnie hasn't played badly but Cobbs is out there on third down instead of him? C'mon.

That said, you are quite right. It has to do with draft position, fair or not.

One reason: Draft position. Ginn was an awful pick for many reasons. he cannot live up to his draft status. Cam looked like a buffon with the whole 'family' thing. If Brady Quinn starts to play and well, this will actually get worse 10 fold. If Ginn was not a #9, yes this reach was picked at 9! He would not be getting this much criticism.

Bess will end up being a starting reciever before the season ends, Hagan an Ginn Jr. better step it up!

NO, Ginn isn't on the field because this regime is so thick headed in the concept of "their guys", which Ginn is not. If they don't think Ginn is one of the best three or four receivers on the team, that is fine. But it is absolutely inexcusable for Ginn to not be returning all kicks and punts.

Where my friend did you hear this?? And wouldn't it be CB not safety?? He had 8 int his senior year in HS... and returned 5 of those for touchdowns.

There is no point in having him in there if he doesn't actually catch and run the ball...remember last week when he let it hit two yards in front of him when there was noone within 15 yards of him...and the one on the sideline he fumbled out of bounds? Can't show great speed if you don't catch the flippin ball...
