Bess denies reports of partially torn ACL in addition to sprained MCL in Finale

I'm not a doctor, but I did have a torn ACL and did a good chunk of research prior to having surgery. Mine was partially torn and as long as I didn't do anything crazy things were fine. I could play golf but not basketball for example. Sharp lateral moves caused things to dislocate. Until it was reconstructed all those active sports were out. Turns out Bess says he doesn't have a tear, so it doesn't matter anyway.

So are you saying the ligament will actually heal itself, or just saying the knee will heal enough to function? My ortho told me it wasn't a tissue that healed on its own, nor could it be simply repaired. It need to be replaced/reconstructed.

It sounds lik you had a complete tear.....therefore, if youre young and active, you have the surgery to reconstruct the ligament ( various tissues can be used depending on doc and your level of activity). A "partial" tear means it's still intact and usually has the ability to heal with conservative management and you will be back to full, unrestricted activity. I say "usually" because sometimes you have other impairment mcl, meniscus, pcl) that impedes healing and thus would require surgery. Hinged knee braces try to limit the valgus stress that usually cause acl disruption, but it does nothing to help stabilize the anterior translation of the tibia on femur (which is the chief responsibility of the acl).
