There has been a lot of talk of us needing a shut down corner to improve our defense next year. Seems a long time since we had Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain playing oppositte one and other and allowing us to consistantly play man to man. Who is the best Dolphins cornerback in their history?

I started watching the Dolphins in the late 70's, just after their glory years so my opinion will definitely be jaded, but I can't remember a more complete corner than Troy Vincent. He could cover one on one. He could come up for run support and he had his share of int's.

the combo of madison/surtain with marion playing safety was pretty insane pass defense

Surtain, Vincent, Don McNeal, then Madison in that order. Vincent definitely was a complete corner and played the run really well. I think Surtain was a better cover guy that also supported the run. McNeal was a very good cover guy. Madison also very good, but tailed off toward the end which is why I have him 4th. Also did NOTHING against the run.

I think the best in terms of pure raw talent was Patrick Surtain. I use this game in reference a lot and I'll use it again; the 2002 matchup in Denver on Sunday Night Football is my favorite Dolphins game ever. Surtain went up against Rod Smith and the Broncos were adimant in getting Smith the football. I haven't seen a corner play more physical and so well on a different varitey of routes since that night. Pat also picked off a pass and took it back to the house.

Now Sam Madison was great as well and was also here longer, but when he and Surtain were here, there was no better combination in football. Oooh how I long for the days of Taylor, Bowens, Thomas, Surtain, Madison and Marion in their prime.

1. Madison-----always took the best reciever
2. Vincent-----same as sam mad
3. t. buck------gambled a lot but always made plays
4. Surtain------ he really only had three great years and was pretty good the rest of the time

It's really easy to point out Madison and Surtain, and even Troy Vincent. BUT...the 72 team's #1 rated defense was loaded. They were so loaded that guys like Foley and Johnson (at CB) were kind of under rated. Our safeties, Jake Scott and Dick Anderson were the DBs that are best remembered, but Tim Foley ought to be thrown into that list of best Dolphin CBs.

Pat Sutain, but for those of you old enough do you remember the one year we had Tim McKyer? He transformed our defense.

Madison has always been my favorite and best imo, I've always loved his ****y swagger. Madison was great early in his career but then he slowed down a bit but has always been a good corner. Surtain was the oppisite and was decent in the beginning of his career and became better as the seasons went on. T-Buck was great and i think he taught Madison alot which explains why he was so good early on.

1. Pat Surtain

2. Terrell Buckley

Those were the best IMO. Buckley gambled a lot, but he got a lot of intZ too...

NOBODY played the Man press like Sam Madison, I remember him picking off 3 balls in prime time vs Mcnair.

IMO Surtain was better then Madison
