Best QB in NFL history

Finally CBSSORTSLINE get's something right, and I'm not usually a Greg Doyle fan, but here's a great read if you haven't seen it yet

A lot of people think it's just that Miami fans are so fiercely defensive of Marino because he was our QB. Simple truth of the matter is, being fans we saw the horrible flaws in our team over the years that stopped Marino from getting his ring. The rest of the country tries to make excuses, we face facts. The one subject that all of us are simultaneously homers and objective realists at the same time. Thankfully someone else in the country has come to understand our plight the same way.

Outstanding article. It is a crazy arguement to say that to be the best QB (or RB, or DE, or CB or Goalie or mid-fielder, or pitcher or DH or short stop) you have to have played on a team that was the best in a particular season. If that is the measure, then why don't you have to win the SB every season to be the best QB ever?? It's a team sport. Offense, Defense, and ST. To be in the arguement of best team ever did it have to be a perfect season (not to be in the debate, but to be the answer, yes), to be the best Coach ever do you have to have had a perfect season?

anyway, it's a team sport, that is how it goes. Dan Marino is the best QB (not passer, QB) ever.

Great article and I agree with his points but its not going to solve anything. To all of us Marino will be the greatest ever. To everyone else they will still say, "where's his ring?" No matter how many stats we throw in peoples face about why he couldnt win a superbowl people just don't listen. Just if he would of won one time the problem would of been solved. Well I will argue for a long time that Marino was the best ever and I know most people on here will too.

well Farve is about to break Marino's career TD passes record and I personally think Manning willl set all those records when its all said and done....

Regardless, Manning did not change the position. Marino did.

I believe Favre has thrown a lot more Int's than Marino did though. As for Peyton I cant really argue against him. He is well on his way to breaking records and is a great QB.

That was a great article. The biggest difference I see between Manning and Marino is that the rules have affected how aggressive the cornerbacks can be. Manning has the luxury of playing with this rule and its only going to help him make more and more throws to recievers that will be more and more open. I would love to see Marino make throws to Duper and Clayton with this rule in affect. Manning is definitley an amazing QB though and if anyone breaks Marino's record I would be OK with it being him.

funny how thiesman said manning is now better than marino did he say in 2000 wow dilfer is better than marino lol please these stupid sb rings hold no water and nobody ever tops terry bradshaw ahead of marino and yet he has 4 rings lolol makes me laugh that these announcers are freakign retarsd

Dick Butkus was the greatest linebacker in NFL history.....how many Superbowls did he win? NONE

How many playoff games did Butkus win or even play in? NONE

But he is still way better than Ray Lewis (who won a SB with the Ravens). He is also better than Urlacher.

It just goes to show you that winning a ring doesn't make you the best at your position.....it doesn't necessarily make you bad either....it just is a bogus argument.
