Well, After Armando's stories and tweets, Espn is reporting that even though Farmer hasn't contacted Miami to withdraw, they're saying it on his behalf and he's staying with the Browns. I guess I need another update.

Back a few months ago there was a lot of speculation that Dawn Aponte might become a GM. Is she not under consideration for the Dolphins job?

No, they keep saying she doesn't want to be that involved with personnel. If anything, I guess it's Gaines. He's running things right now, by default, anyway. Everything is unchanged except for the fact that Ireland is not here.

Addition by subtraction

I am hearing John Scotland is coming in for an interview this weekend.

In retrospect, the best move by Ross was this:

1. Fire Jeff Ireland and promote Gaine.
2. Go to the Senior bowl and move on with life.

The Farmer debacle was an unnecessary embarrassment. This is a guy who probably doesn't even have any business being a GM right now, and he's placed at the adult table for Sunday dinner, and he says no, I'll just stay with the lowly Browns. A strong, experienced GM wouldn't be intimidated by anything, not Aponte, not Philbin, not anyone. He would come in, reorganize, and get busy. The Miami job is still coveted, no matter what the press says, because obviously this is the NFL and there are only 32 of these. If first-tier candidates like Eric DeCosta, Scot McCoughan, and Marc Ross don't want the job, then it's probably MOSTLY because it's not rebuild/restructure time and there's nothing for them to do. Our owner has committed to Joe Philbin and whole coaching staff right now (minus Sherman), and this has to play itself out. In another year, if we're successful, the problem in the GM's office goes away. Or if we're not successful, then a whole lot of those candidates who are sitting this one out, will be interested, because we'll be starting over.

The one new key acquisition we made, Bill Lazor, is going to address one of the primary problems with our team: Lack of development of Tannehill, lack of utilization of offensive players and scheme. So if Ireland didn't like how things were going in that area, he gets his wish because there are changes coming, even if they are subtle in terms of scheme. The other primary problem is drafting and scouting. We are told Joe Philbin was handicapped in some way having to deal with Ireland and getting new players. That goes away because Ireland is gone. We're told he has a good relationship with Gaine, so let's get busy with that, they'll decide which players our team needs and we move forward with the draft.

This can work. Just make a freaking decision and move on.

It's hard not to imagine the Browns of whom Farmer is with, not having hard feelings over the Bess fiasco.
I am sure it came into play with Farmer having issues with Ross.

Im curious where are all the uber homers that said media reports are all false? What happened to all the guys that said, candidates wont be turned off by Aponte, Philbin power structure?
What about the guys that said this is a good job?

You were all wrong. This organization is a mess, and were the biggest joke in the league. They should just promote Gaine and get this over with.

Or wait, let me guess, "Let it play out" or "the sky isn't falling jack ass" or "Ross has a plan"

Of course, I have no idea the true reasons why Farmer turned down a 2nd interview.
However, it does look bad and is very unsettling if Farmer would rather get less money/power and stay in Cleveland, then get more money/power/sun and come to Miami.

It seems our plan all along was to promote Gaine and interviews were just to gauge interest.

As Miami fans always say... "Next year, we will be good..." :(

Updated for Caserio.

That's not gonna happen, though. Not sure what his motives are.

Interesting that the Dolphins say that Hickey is still in the mix. One of the beat writers was a guest on one of the sports radio shows, I think Mike and Mike, and laughed that Dawson thinks his interview is the 3rd one, instead of 2nd one. The suggestion was this guy can't count and he wants to be GM.
