6'4", 350lbs. He is a PERFECT fit for what Saban and Capers want to do with the 3-4 alignment, not to mention a massive 2-gap player in the 4-4. We are pinning our hopes in stopping the run up front on a 15-year vet in Keith Traylor whose knees are a problem. He is our ONLY legitimate big man. He's a force despite his age, but if he is unable to play for any significant period of time, teams will run right at us, and they'll win the battle, despite the presence of ZT and CC. None of our younger guys are ready to assume a starting role. They need more time. Signing a solid big man who occupies blockers is BY FAR this teams biggest remaining need. I wanted Ngata, but I was VERY happy to get a safety. We need Jason Allen. Now it's time to bring in an insurance policy for Traylor, and someone who can step in right away and be a solid starter. If we don't sign a big man to stuff the middle, we are in trouble (lest we forget losing BOTH Bowens and Chester two years ago and finishing 31st against the run. Things would have been VERY different had they not gone down). THOUGHTS...???

I've been saying we should sign Wilkinson.

It's just a matter of what he wants to do. He played very well for Detroit last year, but he's contemplating retirement.

There have been a few reports about how we are monitering his situation. We are interested.

Yeah we don't have much depth at the DT position right now because most of them are still very young. I would not be opposed at all to signing Wilkinson. If Nick Saban thinks that we can do without signing him than i am all for it.

So far, we only have two other nose tackles for sure (Howard Green and Jeff Zgonina) and maybe even one more (Fred Evans).

We Should sign him. we could use him and if him or traylor gets injured we can switch them out

6'6 340 Manny who got experiance last year is my fav. I don't by the rumors either until some POS writer can give a name to go with his accusations or Saban punishes Manny for something I beleive the ignorant sports writer is just makeing up a story about someone for publicity. 6'0 327 Fafita is another DT along with 6'5 305 Vickerson who was being praised last year until that Falcon game. Then their is Rod Wright and Evans our picks this year. With those guys and Traylor I would rather get Schulters back to sure up the secondary before spending the money on Dan. I would'nt object to it though.

Please, we don't need Schulters...our secondary is going to be fine...Schulters would be a liability to this year and future years because he'd take the roster spot of an up and comer...

Manny needs to make it happen this year...he needs to show he can be that force in the middle. However, it's pretty well established that it takes the NT a few years to develop into that 1-2 gap big guy that ties up OL and stuffs the run....If you look at guys like Traylor and others in that mold, they all took a few years to develop into the force they are....

I thought that Wilkerson had some injury issues that have plagued him ??? I could be wrong.

I still would rather see us get a solid SOLB. That appears to be our weakest point on the D, assuming no injuries...We have 3 guys that are ok, but none possess the combination of a pass rushing, able to drop and cover, run stuffer type OLB...Each possess one of the skills, but are weak in the other areas...

Not to mention that Traylor started off as an LB, of all things.

I like Hodge at the other OLB position opposite Crowder. Hodge didn't really have a weakness at UNC and I beleive he may surprise you with his coverage. I think Manny will be fine. The young guys do have some great vets to learn from and I don't think the DT position is that hard to get used too. The way I see it keep the C and G away from Zach and the run game is nullified.
