2008-#1 Jake Long T
2006-#18 Bobby Carpenter LB
2005-#11 DeMarcus Ware OLB
2005-#20 Marcus Spears DE
2003-#5 Terrance Newman CB
1997-#8 James Farrior OLB
1996-#7 Terry Glenn WR
1995-#23 Ty Law CB
1994-#4 Willie McGinest OLB
1993-#1 Drew Bledsdoe QB

I say DJ Moore if hes on the board which i HIGHLY doube or Delmas which should be there will be our pick. If not, its OLB 110% loll

either way its a LB or CB haha

i feel like delmas would be a reach at 25... yes, he's in the top 3 safeties, but remember that this year's crop of safeties is pretty weak.

there's a lot of offensive linemen and defensive linemen that will go in the first round (about 10 to 15), there are also some skill players at the WR, QB and RB position that will leave in the first round (about 10 of them) . there's also a good LB pool ( about 5).

IMO, there will be 1 safety at most that will be a first rounder.

The cornerback is another story though... i think at least 3 of them will go in the first round.

so now, if you're the dolphin staff, you ask yourself: at what position will the best players slide to 25 ?

because obviously, there will be a top prospect in one of those positions that will fall in our laps, and this staff has to identify who before they can think of resigning every free agent we've got. On a sidenote, that's why they are not in a hurry to resign any of our FA... because the draft process just started...

the way i see it, there either will be a very good RT, a very good CB or a very good LB/DE at 25... there will also have good to average safeties, good WRs and maybe a good DE (for a 3-4) in tyson jackson (RBs and QBs might slip but they are not worth mentionning in our case)

guess what, we have holes at all those positions on our roster...

right now, it's up to ireland to put the pieces of the puzzle in the right place:
- resign vernon carey, or draft a guy like jamon meredith and let him compete with Ndukwe for the RT spot ?

- Keep carey and:
- move Merling to OLB to compete with roth and draft a big guy like Tyson jackson to be our DE ? or a guy like jarron gilbert in a later round?
- Don't resign Bell and draft moore in the first round ?
- Don't resign goodman and draft a guy like alphonso smith or dj moore ?
- be cautious and draft delmas or R.Johnson in the first round to be your free safety, even though you know it's a reach ?
- resign a few guys in the secondary and draft a big DE with OLB potential in the mold of demarcus ware ... but really, are there any ?
- etc etc ...

obviously, what will be available in later rounds will also dictate how they will attack the draft...

here's a last food for thought... last year, the dolphins spent A LOT of money on the offensive line by drafting Jake Long and signing smiley... do they really want to tie up another 4 to 6 million per year on that unit ? I really don't know. The offensive line is gelling together, vernon had a good year and he's offering good versatility... on the other side, you can get younger/cheaper (and better ? :ponder: ) in the first round of the draft...

the vernon carey situation, IMO, is the one to monitor right now. Cameron wake changed our draft but now carey can have an even bigger impact, so it's really not as simple as " a LB or a CB"

Virginia's Clint Sintim sounds like the logical choice. He's a big, fast, pass rushing 34 OLB who played at UVa under Parcells Protege' Al Groh. He is projected to go about the time we pick, and there aren't many other OLB's that meet the trifecta's preference regarding triangle numbers.

But, if James Laurinaitis is there, I must admit, I'll be quite pissed if we don't select him. I'm a UVa fan, so I know how good Sintim is, but Laurinaitis is one of those linebackers that define teams, like Ray Lewis or Brian Urlacher. He'll be a fantastic player and an instant leader. If Crowder leaves (very possible), he'd also be a perfect fit in a position of need.

Your really putting alot of stock in these kids coming in and starting with no safety net. Why wouldn't you want to keep Goodman and bring in a young CB to compete and learn. The kid could take over when ready not just thrown in the fire when Goodman is pretty good, same with Bell.

Cameron Wake has only changed the fact that we now have a replacement for Porter further down the road. We still need to improve the other OLB spot, Roth is adequate but he needs competition to improve the impact of the position.

1996 he didn't have draft power so he doesn't get credit for Glenn(he wanted Cedric Griffin) and in 1997 the Farrior pick LOOKS good but you have to take into consideration we had the #1 overall pick and dropped down, took Farrior(who underachived under BP and Groh) then flourished when he left.

i was merely pointing out examples of possible roster moves

we already have joey thomas and jason allen to compete at the cb position... i know they're not as good as goodman ...

as for wake, he DID change the draft because now we've got to worry about the SOLB position... so we're looking for a completely new player.

if the staff considers moving merling to the SOLB position, the need is now at DE, where we have a capable hollyday, a one dimensional langford and a good player in randy starks. It's not enough to go through a season if you ask me, I wouldn't take a DE in the first round but if that scenario unfolds, i'd see the staff draft a DE between round 3 to 5

I agree, but the only reason Parcells traded out of that pick was because Peyton Manning decided not to come out as a junior.
