there is a lot of talk around here about Ted Ginn etc. and something that continues to get overlooked about some of these players is OPPORTUNITY. you know we love to call players busts and rush to judgment, but sometimes maybe perception doesnt meet reality. the fact of the matter is sometimes players just simply dont get the opportunity to perform. they arent put in the correct position to succeed, and they arent used properly or given the opportunity.

something that gets overlooked here alot is bill parcells ego, and the requirements he puts on players from a size standpoint. maybe hes on to something and maybe just maybe he isnt. maybe his requirements at times cause him to miss on players.

ted ginn was never going to get a fair shot in miami. parcells would rather be correct than find a player that doesnt fit the mold. why wasnt ted ginn used to return kicks and punts sparanos first year? he clearly displayed his talents the previous year under cameron. what did he take 4 back? 3 of them got called back cause of holds. but every single penalty was a poor call. it wasnt at the point of attack and it always behind the play. the facts are he returned 4. thats a ton of production. and that production is rewarded the following year by not using him???? hes already proven he can do it.

parcells has requirements in the return game based on size of legs etc. ginn didnt fit the requirement. the funny thing is the one position parcells doesnt have those same requirements is running back. there cant be a more similar position on the field than running back. how arbitrary. it makes no sense.

ginn was never going to get a fair shot under parcells and thats proven by the fact they just gave him away. beck was never going to get a fair chance either. im not saying becks great. but his career was also derailed by parcells coming to town, and its not like the guy is out of the league. why is he still in the league?? why was he competing for a starting job? i thought the book was written already on the guy? i thought parcells had the authority to do that? we havent heard the last of beck yet. not saying hes going to be any good. just saying - years later this guy IS going to get his opportunity.

parcells didnt even want to give the guy a chance. he didnt meet the eye test. beck had to try to get out of town to ever have a shot.

weve missed on other guys here. guys that showed talent and werent given the opportunity to make it. just because a player doesnt perform to your expectations doesnt mean there werent other factors involved that blocked their path. and these guys dont exactly have a pristine track record when it comes to this. and we havent found any gems that have come from other teams and developed into really good players. why are there so many guys that get out of miami that have developed in other places? the opposite isnt true.

paul soliai was considerd a bust at one time around here. randy mueller was taking all kinds of **** about that draft. look at it now. compare it to irelands with what they had to work with.

all im saying is sometimes perception isnt reality when it comes to these players. and so many are quick to rush to judgement. and so often they are wrong

So... shouldn't we talk about them and not him?

no not when its his system of player evaluation and potentially the reason why we overlook talent currently on the roster in favor of players u havent "flashed" anything in the entire career or given sparano any reason to "feel them out there".

if these guys had an opportunity to find another nose tackle the last couple of years and werent in desperate need of one, no doubt paul solaia wouldnt be here today either.

Or maybe Soliai finally started to 'click', and he started playing up to his potential. Therefore eliminating the need to find a new DT.
