3. Miami Dolphins, Joe Philbin

Philbin has failed to help the Dolphins reach a playoff berth in each of his first three seasons at the helm. Last year, Miami was 8-6 and only needed to beat the Buffalo Bills or New York Jets for a postseason spot, but lost both while scoring a combined seven points. This year, the Dolphins went 2-3 in December to finish 8-8, including blowout losses to the New England Patriots and Jets.

Philbin has a talented young quarterback in Ryan Tannehill, an excellent defense and a solid cast of skill position players. The Dolphins should have made the playoffs each of the past two seasons, but instead are sitting on a six-year drought.

I think what pisses me off the most is Philbin declaring him head

coach before the season ended. Ross is the owner , he can do what he wants but declaring Philbin the head coach before the season ends like he deserved it is just such bad decision making.

Did philbin think we would sweep the Jets no problamo? Make the playoffs ? He has his foot in it now........and we cant attract any new coaches worth a s**t. Great leadership Ross!

ross had a knee jerk reaction to the Viking win. he saw the players rally and thought "it must be joe". the problem is, when we have needed to win we have craped our pants two years in a row. and joe is incompetent (ross is too) and gets out coached on a weekly basis. the only game I felt that the our staff out coached a team was the SD game. we only played one 60 minute game all year. either started off slow or ended slow. piss poor coaching period.

We got lucky and beat a bad Vikings team by 2 points. We allowed that bad Vikings team to score 35 points. The win was hardly impressive.

it wasnt knee jerk at all...he knew harbagh would be let go and didnt ant to have to answer any questions...it was very well thought out on his part...unfortunatly for us, he care more about michigan, and getting a superbowl party in miami than getting miami to the superbowl...he is a scumbag...

No, he cared more abut RT and his development into greatness. Which on that part I agree.

Look, everything that is happening here is just a game of blame. Does Joe deserve blame? Of course he does, its well documented. But this defending a guy paid 12 mil to essentially bitch after a TD is scored by his fellow teammate is just absolutely insane.

What will this article prove if Philbin actually ends up with another good draft and this years rookies become good? What if we actually land a big WR who can actually go up and fight for a ball? What if we actually play a softer schedule and the Bills actually do not find a QB? What if the Jets new GM and coaching staff actually screw the pooch one more time!

If people are upset with Philbin, yeah, join the party. But none of this will matter if we get a defense that doesnt fold and RT actually gets enough time to hit his new bunch of recievers who wont cry when they dont get the ball enough to their liking.

I praise Hartline for walking away. wise choice.

Eh, I am not a fan of that article. Jay Gruden walked into a toxic situation, between ownership, complete lack of defensive talent, and Bob Griffin. I wouldn't fire him after one year on the job.

Gus Bradley has built a very good young defense and really seems to connect with his players. He was simply stuck with the absolute worst quarterback in football this year and made the decision to sacrifice his own job security to try to develop the kid. No way on earth should Bradley be fired for that. He did that organization a HUGE favor by putting his own job on the line to help them long-term. Bortles was so bad that they might actually draft another quarterback, and they never would have discovered how bad he is if Gus hadn't been willing to stick his neck out.

if we get status quo joe with personnel this coming season then yeah this was a mistake...he needs to fire that dc too...hold some people accountable

unfortunately i think this wr stir thing means brian hartlines probably coming back next season...it fits the philbin mold

That article is depressing. I'd be much happier with Bradley and even gruden as our HC. They actually have potential and have at least had success as coordinators in this league previously. Bradley impresses me. That jags organization has been at absolute zero and as astutely mentioned above Gus has risked his career to give bortles some valuable development time. As for gruden the redskins organization is a buzzsaw and if anything at least Jay has shown some balls with his approach.

some people really need to think things through. You want a new head coach? please come up with a head coach that would come into Miami's situation, stick with the existing OC, and basically have your hands tied with what's already there, rather than having your own guys there, and doing what you want to do. Or do you guys want a new HC who will also bring in his own guys. bringing in a new system, set the team back even further, stunt Tannehill's growth with a 3rd system in 4 years. Philbin has 1 more year on his contract, lets just see what they can do with another year of building. If Miami fails next year, it will be much easier to clean house and hopefully attract better people for the HC job.

I think Gus Bradley is seriously underrated. He's done good work with that defense, no joke. You can see clear as day that his players love him and he's got a good feel for the game. I went on a Jags board earlier this year and the fans were so down on him, while actually making threads like "Who's better: Luck or Bortles?" - I **** you not, they were serious about that stuff.

Bizarro world out there.

Gus Bradley has done a very good job in Jacksonville despite his record. If given the time, and some better offensive pieces, he will get them on the right path.

I'm over the whole Philbin issue. The decision is made and it is time to focus on filling in the pieces on this team that need to be fixed. I am most interested in the short term to see what happens with the DC spot.....and maybe special teams.

Finally, some people are starting to figure this out. Everybody knows with 3+ games to go, this was another disappointing year and we were going nowhere. Ross knows that with us finishing out of the playoffs and at .500 again, fans and writers are going to be clamoring for change. Ross also knows that Harbaugh is going to be let go from SF, but he's interested in Michigan unless a better pro job becomes available. After barely beating a terrible MN team, he quickly announces Joe's return for all the right P.R. reasons that he believes most will swallow before Harbaugh can be let go after week 17. Now he can completely concentrate on putting his Michigan booster hat on and help pave the way for Harbaugh go save his one trule love, Michigan. I'm sorry folks, as long as Ross is owner of this team, we are going to be far down on his importance list so long as he's making any money off us. Success with him owning the Dolphins only is measured in $$$, not Superbowls. Not a conspiracy theory, just a cold hard fact that we rate below a lot of other things (including Michigan) to our owner.

OK....I'll play. What exactly is the "cold hard fact" here?

I have no problem with your comments, and more power to you if you believe them, but it sounds like an opinion being offered.

With Harbaugh going to Michigan I dont mind bringing Philbin back. 1 more year for TH in the same system should help. If we can just fix the Oline for ****s sake.
