Regardless of how many tickets the Dolphins sell this year, all of their homes games are guaranteed to air on local television.
The NFL has suspended its blackout rule for the second consecutive season, according to SportsBusiness Journal’s Daniel Kaplan.

The FCC already eliminated sports blackouts on local television in 2014 but the league is still enable to enforce blackouts with private contracts set with broadcasters and cable companies.
At this point it would be a surprise if the blackout rule ever returns to the NFL.
It might have made sense years ago when the majority of revenue came from ticket sales. But TV contracts — not ticket sales — drive the NFL, which has become an absurdly successful organization.
Most NFL games are sold out anyway. And some teams, like the Dolphins, would purchase enough of their own unused tickets to lift the blackout.

Yea this is always helpful. Only go to 2 or 3 games a year . . . used to have to plan out that Naples trip everytime we came close to having a blackout (Mr. Ross always bought the rest).

Excellent news for those who enjoy the at home experience way better than the stadium one.

disagree, nothing is the same as being in a stadium for real, but if you don't want to go you should always have the option of watching on tv

not sure if this is good or bad?

Blackouts used to be a good thing for locals to force a sell out and show the team on TV. But you were talking about a couple thousands tickets. In our recent history we needed some 10 or 15k to sell games out and even a blackout would have not changed it.

But we are not the only team who is lacking support. Despite the NFL games being declared mostly sold out a lot of teams struggle to fill the stadium to capacity. They used to show an attendance line in the game reports which had the addition "no shows" (back in the 90s) but they got rid of it because it reflected bad on the teams and the NFL in general.

Next year with the completion of the renovations and reduced capacity the Dolphins should have no problems selling out. After that they will be back to struggling if they do not bring out a competitive product.

Have you ever known anybody that chose to go to a game simply because it would potentially be blacked out? Maybe back in the 80s or 90s. Now? Anybody halfway competent with a computer says "Oh, it's blacked out? Well, I still want to watch it, but don't feel like paying the crazy prices, commuting, parking, etc. for a team that kinda sucks. Let me just hit a few buttons on this computamobopper and voila! Watching the game anyways."

Come regular season you will find me chilling with fellow Dolfans in my high tech, air condition man-cave!! Yes!!

Go Dolphins!!
