My initial reaction to the Pat White pick? The first thing I said was wow. I was really surprised and caught off-guard, which was tough for me as a person who likes to be in control, and as a young sports writer and huge dolphins fan that likes to think I have a good idea what these men, these smart men in charge of the Miami Dolphins are doing. I thought the pick was going to be defense - Connor Barwin or Clint Sintim. Those were two linebackers I thought they were really into, and I bought into the idea they wanted an outside linebacker.

In a single moment of time, everything I thought I understood about Parcells and this coaching/roster building/player developing trio evolved and over the last few days, while balancing getting ready for my finals over here at the University of Maryland and getting drunk with my friends and my girlfriend, it's been the main thing on my mind. I have been spitting some serious soliloquies on the new kid in town and what he means. It's about so much more than Pat White, but, for now, let's focus on Pat White.

The pick could mean anything, and we have no idea. That is what is so exciting and at the same time frustrating about the pick. I don't think he's going to play much receiver so by Scott Wright of NFLDraftCountdown.com's definition of the pick, he's already a "value-bust" without even hitting the field. Hmm. I'm sorry but one thing I do understand about Parcells and these guys is that they aren't idiots. They spent millions of dollars getting ready for this draft. In terms of their collective livelihoods, in a sense every day in their professional lives was leading up to that draft, that moment when they took Pat White. I'm sorry Mr. Wright and Mel Kiper and some "knowledgeable" people on this and other message boards , but you didn't spend as much time scouting these players over three months as the Dolphins front office did in a day. And even if you did, I would take Parcells draft board over any of yours 100 out of 100 times. This isn't Cam Cameron/Randy Mueller, and even those guys opinions mean so much more.

That doesn't mean Pat White is going to be a great player. It means that considering who took him, we should be a lot more excited than concerned about this pick, about any pick they make. Did none of you learn anything last year?

Bob Marley once said, "The first thing you must know about me is that I always stand what I stand for. Good? The second thing you must know about yourself listening to me is that words are tricky. So when you know what me a stand for, when me explain a thing to you, you must never try to look 'pon it in a different way from what me a stand for." That's the way I look at the actions of good men. But people make mistakes. So like I said, we have no idea. It's kind of like life.

With all that being said, these guys have a vision. It's not drafting Ted Ginn to play mainly special teams. It's not drafting a guy to play 3-5 gimmick plays a game. And I don't think it's drafting a quintessential quarterback. This guy gives us some options that have the potential to revolutionize the game of football. We have a prototypical quarterback in Pennington/Henne and no I don't think we're trying to replace either one. We're trying to supplement him. What could be better than to compliment a 6-foot-3 230 pound strong armed right-handed pocket passer (Henne) with a 6-foot 195 pound left-handed passer and athlete. Hmm. What if Ronnie Brown was offset on the line, with Pat White in the right slot and Pennington/Henne in the shotgun. How can a defense have any idea what we're going to do? And that's just one idea. My guess is he gets 5-7 touches throwing the football, 5-7 rushing and a few snaps receiving.

I love football and the Dolphins more than anything but I, you know, didn't have access to, you know, countless hours of game film, interviews with coaches, I wasn't at workouts etc. Were you? My gut says this idea might work and if it doesn't, well I'll be damned if I don't have a field day just imaging the possibilities in my crazy head this spring and summer. That's gotta be worth something because remember, we're just fans. This isn't really our lives. It's our escape.

And this Pat White thing? It's not a gimmick. No. It's all part of the plan.

Couldnt have said it any better. I for one was very excited about the pick. I think he becomes the x-factor in the wildcat ehn who knows

And its all because of a guy named David Lee. He ran the Wildcat at Arkansas under a guy named Bryan Mcfadden. If ever there is potential bust it is Mcfadden who made himself look great under a "gimmick" offense. Apparently, its only a "gimmick" when someone other than a stud like Mcfadden is running it.

So this is what you get. You get minds that do not understand that there are people out there who actually sleep with football on their brains all day and night drawing up stuff to confuse defenses everywhere.
