I was a big fan of drafting him back in 2015, and watching him grow and develop has been really cool. From a 22% snap taker as a rookie, to 54% in year two, and now 63% this last season, he has become an increasingly important player.

I went through all of his tape and took cut-ups of him showing his skill set across man different coverages, techniques and responsibilities.

There are a few themes.

1.) He could be Miami's "move" piece as he had some looks as a two-deep safety, on the edge and in the slot. He really does do it all.

2.) We should extend him as soon as possible.

3.) He's a DAMN good slot corner. Whether it's man or zone, press, bump-and-run, spot-dropping or pattern-matching, he's fluid across all aspects of this defense.

Tons of GIFs inside.

First, some advance statistics from Bleacher Report’s Ian Wharton. Ian is developing a handbook that charts all cornerback play across the NFL. Among other things, this handbook focuses solely on corners in man coverage, and tracks their completion percentage and yards-after-the-catch allowed.

From Ian’s chart, McCain’s numbers for 2017 are as follows:

“He allowed just 28% completion percentage on 18 targets, which was lowest in the league for anyone above 10 slot man targets. Also allowed only 11 yards after the catch. Finished third among 38 slot corners I charted in terms of staying “in position” for all slots.”

This is one of those situations where the FO has to find the cap for an extension. Should of done it for Landry 2 years ago.

In fairness, the rules precluded Miami from doing that two years ago. He must have three years accrued on his rookie deal. I think there's plenty of time to do this.

Listened to the Podcast and the previous three or four. Just great stuff, great content. Not surprised at all on the McCain analysis. I think this D can make gigantic statistical leaps next year with a few holes plugged and some better injury luck. There are talented players and some depth, not to mention a lot of room for players to continue to grow, even as players like Wake age.

Thanks man! It has really grown since I took it over. Very excited to see how far I can take it.

If you're referring to today's podcast, I just think we're a couple of pieces away from being pretty damn good.
