Boston Red Sox Acquire Javy Lopez

Good move. I assume Lopez has already cleared waivers. Or alternately, no team in their right mind would pick up the 2 years at $10 million (or whatever) left on his contract after this year.

It was a must needed pick up by the Red Sox. I actually mentioned that the Sox should pick up Lopez on Wednesday. Lopez is a huge upgrade hitting wise over Mirabelli or Huckabee or whoever.

Hopefully the Sox didn't have to give up much if anything to land Lopez. Although probably not due to his unhappiness in Baltimore and he has about 2.2 million dollars left to be paid out on his contract.

He's not a FA after the year? I thought he was.
 
I just looked up Lopez's contract and he will indeed be a FA after the year as his contract runs out at the end of 2006.
 
Lopez is an upgrade for the Red Sox, but not a big one. He's been on a steady decline since his juice year, excuse me I mean walk year in 2003!

He's much better than Mirabelli. And that's all that matters. Maybe with Lopez at Fenway he could do some damage. I'm more confident in Lopez than Mirabelli.
 
A huge upgrade on Mirabelli. I would take Lopez over him anyday. That was a great move by the Red Sox

I agree. Mirabelli is nothing more than a back up. At least Lopez is a somewhat proven catcher/hitter.
 
Has to be an advantage adding a vet catcher like Lopez,especially with all his playoff experiance.Nice move by Boston imo.

This is a must make move by the Sox and a no brainer.

Let's put it this way I'd rather have Lopez in there everyday than Mirabelli.
