This is not a Beck bashing post. Just a rational point.

Look. Becks chance to stick with this team is this simple.........

Does the FO and coaching staff feel that John Beck will be a better backup to Pennington than Josh McCown? Its that simple. If they think Beck can go in there should Pennington go down and help us win games, he will stay. If they dont, then they will keep McCown.

Of those two guys they are going to select the QB that they feel will help us win if they need to play for an injured Pennington. Cut and dry.

This is why I say that. There is NO QUESTION that Pennington IS our starter. There is also NO QUESTION that it is Chad Henne who is the guy that is being groomed to be the QB of the future for this franchise. The guy has already come in and been impressive in camp with his rocket arm and toughness. He was the guy selected by this regime.

There is no keeping Beck for the purpose of battling with Henne to see who is the QB of the future. Forget about that. If Beck sticks it will be simply because the FO feels he is a better backup QB than Josh McCown.

And if you dont think the FO drafting Henne makes it next to impossible for Beck to win them over as the QB of the future, just take a look at what happened in Green Bay. That GM's first selection with the team was Rogers. They ran off BRETT FAVRE to make sure Rogers starts this year, the final year on his rookie contract. BP and CO. are dead set on Henne being the QB of the future for this team. For Beck to unseat Henne in that role he would have to first beat McCown as the backup and then be MIGHTY IMPRESSIVE when he gets opportunities to play. And even if he does that there is still no guarentee that the FO replaces Henne with Beck as the main guy in the "QB of the future" role.

Bottom line----Pennington is our starter
Henne is our QB of the future.

That leaves one role. Backup QB. Not only for Pennington but, possibly Henne's backup in the future.

And really thats all John Beck can hope for. Ive stated all along that he is at best a backup QB in this league....AT BEST. But, tons of people on here insisted he was a virtual lock to start for us this year. NAW. Now that its clear that isnt happening they still insist he will be kept to be groomed ALONG WITH Henne.....NAW.

If he is kept its to help us win games should Pennington get injured. And thats why I feel he will most likely be a goner. I just dont see how you can put Beck in a real game(regular season) right now and expect him to perform. He hasnt given any indication at all that he can do that.

McCown on the other hand, although he has been terrible in camp, has a proven track record of being able to be a backup in this league, and even spot start, and have SOME success. Beck hasnt. I just dont see how they can keep Beck over McCown given the fact that the only role left to be filled is the backup QB spot.

Look guys, the writing has been on the wall for Beck. I know its difficult for most of you to want to read it, but its there. If Beck plays well tonight, look for him to be shopped for a while. If they find a deal he is traded. If not he is released. If he bombs tonight, look for him to be released sooner than later.

Peace.

John Beck? Who is that? Oh you mean the afterthought in the wake of all this activity?
The moment the Chad rumors starting floating I suspected Beck was a goner. Especially since Chad has a history of being injured.. Can you imagine Beck being forced to start and having the same results he had last year? Fumbling, bumbling and looking like junior varsity player on the Pro field? That would force them to start Henne and I don' think our coaching staff wants to be put in that position.

It is impossible to develop 2 young quarterbacks at the same time. Henne is the guy this front office drafted. Beck isn't.

To me that means this front office and coching staff will invest the time in Henne. And Beck is gonna be gone. I expect us to trade him in the coming weeks for a 7th or 6th round pick.

If Chad Pennington hadn't come here, then I would think that the front office was giving him a chance. But with Pennington as our starter for a year or two, it is Henne's job for the immediate future.

I just hope we can get something for him.

By the time Pennington's contract is up, Beck will be right near the age of 30.

Henne will be 25.

It's obvious to me that Henne is the guy of the future, as MikeO said, you can't develop 2 at once, one will have to go, and I think the odd man out is going to be Beck.

EXACTLY. Great point. Exactly the point I was making as to why they will choose McCown to be the backup. Im glad someone else understands.

Also consider that the latest depth chart was McCown/Beck/Henne. Well now that makes it Pennington/McCown/Beck/Henne. We know Henne isnt getting cut. So who is next in line according to the depth chart that SPARANO HIMSELF made????? And what indications are there that just a few days later he now has Beck ahead of McCown??? Beck is gone.

Man I wish I knew Sparano the way that you do. I know that Pennington is coming in here with the most experience and everything else, but in no way is he already that starter for this team. If Beck, McCown, or Henne come out and out preform him they are going to be the starter for this team.

My question is why keep a guy that has been around the league and you know that you arn't going to get anything from him like McCown over a guy that you really dont know exactly what you are going to get out of?? McCown was owned this week by both Beck and Henne, so why would we keep him??

I personally think that if Pennington is the starter, it will be a good thing for this team because he actually is a good QB. He's not great, he's not going to make anybody forget about Marino, but hopefully he will be good enough to lead this team to a winning record.

I think its pretty obvious. And like Bumrush said....Do people really think they are going to trust Beck to start some games should Pennington get injured????

You dont keep a vet as your starter who has a history of missing starts and keep two inexperienced guys behind him. The idea is to win games this year...OBVIOUSLY. So they are going to want a backup that gives them an opportunity to compete. Thats McCown. Only one guy will be kept to groom....thats HENNE!!! NOT BECK!!!

BTW, our QB depth chart is as legit as it has been since Marino retired. And this is all done in ONE OFFSEASON. Great job BP.

beck is staying, mccown is gone. get ur facts strait

Well, whats your basis for making this statement?

I laid out my reasoning that makes me feel McCown will stick as the backup. All of it is very rational. Give me your reasons that you think Beck will be the backup. Lets hear it. Or are you just going on blind hope?

I wouldn't be too quick to write John Beck off. In foottball like life, opportunity emerges when you least expect it. Beck struggled in TC but has made improvement.

Maybe he doesn't want to take the time to switch his sig?
