Bradley Chubb

Thank you, I'll take that as a massive compliment.

And for the record, my thoughts on the matter aren't to second guess the trade or change anyone's mind. I was just irked by those who posted his stats as a way to show me that I should some how be more appreciative of having acquired this player because of his impact, which was by and large irrelevant to franchise. That should irk anyone who loves the Dolphins.
Yep.

I

Chubb contract

2025 salary cap number: $12.4 million

2025 salary: $3.2 million

2025 pro-rated signing bonus: $9.1 million

2025 per-game roster bonus: $680k

2025 workout bonus: $100k

2026 salary cap number: $29.3 million

2027 salary cap number: $29.7 million

2028 salary cap number: $2.8 million (Void Year)
Thanks Ghost .wondering how much of 26 and 27 are guaranteed $.

680k per game roster bonus so if he plays all 17 games he’ll get 11.5 back. I’m not sure if that signing bonus is new if it is that covers the rest.
Ya this was definitely not a pay cut, just a restructure, unless he is injured. Which I guess is better then nothing. But I was hoping for some actual performance incentives, in case he sucka after that knee injury. Basically if he plays we will have kicked the can down the road.

I was hopeful as it was reported there was performance incentives. So I was hoping for some cash bonuses attached to like #of sacks or like that. But is all basically if he suits up he gets his money back.

I think your conclusion is wrong. Look at OverTheCap.com https://overthecap.com/player/bradley-chubb/6890. It lists his per game roster bonus at $680k for '24, '25, '26, and '27. I think this should be interpreted as he can make up to $680k in bonus money if he is on the roster for all 17 games. This idea is further supported by the fact that 17 divides into 680 evenly.

Yeah you might be right. I’m good with salary basics but the extra stuff throws me off. So maybe incentives will be updated soon and we can know for sure.

curious, does Grier get any credit for the Armstead and Chubb moves or are we still holding torches and pitchforks?
I guess that would depend on how each produce in 2025? Will Chubb play better or worse than a 12 mil DE and will Armstead play better or worse than a 9 million LT? I don't have the answer to that question and neither do you. We will see how these players values unfold in the 2025 season.

To me, the measure will be the free agents they acquire with the $25 million and how they perform.

It doesn’t work that way. That $25 isn’t coming from expired contracts, its coming from barrowed money from initial bad contracts agreed to by Grier. 2026 has a 10.3 mil void year from Armstead’s original contract.

Armstead was heading for a post-June designation. That meant the Dolphins wouldn’t be able to spend that money until June. This way, not only do they get it for free agency this week but Terron can still “decide to retire” after June for additional $1.2 million in cap space. He gets exactly what was coming to him but the teams gets great benefits. My question was do we credit Grier for a smart move?

I don't know why you keep saying this is some smart move. GMS all around the league make moves like this all the time, and a lot end up being bad decisions.

Grier is leveraging future money for now. Which can be a great move if it leads to at minimum an appearance in AFC champ. Grier leveraged future assets to go out and overpay to get guys like Chubb which has turned into a absolutely shittastic move. Good GMs don't make moves like that Chubb deal unless he is viewed as a missing piece for a long run, we weren't their yet, Grier ****ed the rebuild.

What Grier is doing now carries a lot of risk. He is yet again leveraging future assets (money) for immediate help. In my opinion that extra space for this year won't help enough to fill the massive holes Grier has already created. He is trying to dig himself out of a hole he created.

And again in my opinion, Grier absolutely should have been fired (was never qualified for the job to start with) and the new GM probably would just take some lumps now to shed guys like TA off the roster and take the cap hit right away to try and do a 1/2 year flip of the roster.

The most likely scenario is Grier spends that future money now, we still don't make the playoffs or bounced in the 1st and we are worse of on 26 cap space. And if that happens then what Grier is doing with TA deal was a crap move.
