Everyone hangs Brady Quinn for the way Notre Dame as a whole played, however here's a stat for you guys to chew on.

In 11 games against ranked teams over the past two seasons, JaMarcus Russell threw 13 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. He threw 30 touchdowns and six interceptions against everyone else. I'm not putting these numbers up to stake out an arguement of who's better of the two, I'm stating facts.

LSU was 7-4 in 11 games against ranked opponents with Russell at the helm.

This year, LSU went 3-2 against ranked teams. Last year, 4-2 (Tennessee was ranked when they played and beat LSU).

Notre Dame was 8-6 in 14 games against ranked opponents with Quinn as QB, with Quinn throwing for 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Notre Dame this year went 2-3 against ranked opponents (Michigan State was ranked when they played), and Quinn threw 16 TDs and 6 interceptions.

Last year, the Irish went 4-2 against ranked opponents, with Quinn throwing 8 TDs against 3 interceptions.

In '04, they went 2-2 against ranked teams where he had 5 TDs and 3 Interceptions.

So, make your own judgements from this. I've heard many arguements that state Quinn plays like crap in the big game, where in actuality, he's played fairly well against ranked opponents.

Sorry.. Should have put this in the Draft Thread. My err and apologies.

Considering Quinn had the lesser OL and horrible D, that's quite a feat. He really had to carry that Irish offense his entire career. He can make comebacks against decent teams (as he's shown against UCLA, who I think has a pretty deadly DL).

You hit the nail right on the head. Whereas Notre Dame's performance was not always stellar at times, Quinn was consistent and kept Notre Dame in quite a few games that they would have lost with a lesser QB.

LSU on the other hand, has one of the most talent filled rosters in NCAA football, yet Russell in big game situations was pedestrian.

jus let oakland take jaMarcus Russell and let them screw themselves over. who cares
reggie nelson kicks arse

Nice Stats

Brady Quinn
2 – 3 vs ranked teams

In the loses

vs Michigan att 48 comp 24 50.0% td 3 int 3
vs USC 45 22 48.9% 3 0
vs LSU 35 15 42.9% 2 2

In 3 loses 128 61 47.6% 8 5

In Brady’s 3 loses twice he completed less than 50% and was even in the 3rd and to say that he carried the entire Irish offense is just pure propaganda. Almost every high school grade wants to play for ND. Talent flows from this team from head to toe.

Great post...I was a little surprised. I like the fact that both of these QBs didn't throw an interception in 9 of the 13 games they played in this year. It will be interesting to see how the draft plays out with these two.

Fair enough, now I'll rebound with stats of my own to counter yours.

Russell's two losses.

vs. Auburn
20-35
269 yards
0 TD
0 INT
57.1 Completion Percentage

vs. Florida
24-41
228 yards
1 TD
3 INT
58.5 completion percentage

Quinn had a worse completion percentage, but had more yards and 3 more Touchdowns than Russell in both men's two regular season losses. Both had 3 Interceptions, so that stat is negated.

I'll also use the quality win factor..

Quinn's biggest win this season was against Penn State

In that game his stats were
25-36
287 yards
3 TD
0 INT
69.4 Completion percentage

Russell's big win this season was against Arkansas

14-22
210 yards
2 TD
0 INT
63.6 Completion percentage

Also, in regards to your arguement that everyone wants to play for the Irish, that may be the case but with the academic standards setforth by Notre Dame, not everyone can make the grade, both literally and figuratively. LSU's is considerably more lax. Comparing their enrollment standards to that of Notre Dame is like comparing the price of a Jaguar to the price of a Dodge Neon.

Thanks :dolphins:

I figure, since these two QBs are going to be the first two off the board, it'd be for interesting debate if nothing else.

Also, excellent stat added to the discussion.. No INTs in 9 of 13 games.. That's impressive.

You dont pay attention to recruiting much do you? ND loses atleast 3 more games with out Quinn. You think it's a coincidence that when he doesnt play well ND gets blown out? No one on that team can pick up any slack, he sucks on any given day the team sucks. He plays well the team is in the game. Other QBs had the luxory of being able to have occasional bad games and still have a shot to win, Quinn never had that. To say ND is loaded with talent from head to toe is just a lie. The days of every kid growing up praying he can go to ND are over unfortunately. Just look at the last few drafts and how many ND players have been taken in day 1 and tell me the top talent comes from ND.

I'm not saying ND doesnt have talent. It wasnt Quinn and a bunch of scrubs. But that team doesnt sniff 10 wins w/ out him. And ND's talent level, especially all around talent, isnt comparable to the LSU's/UF's/USC's etc etc.

I don't know what you are talking about. From our own fin service we have 3 1st rnd projections and from the offense alone 8 pro prospects, and from the team 12 pro prospects, from this year alone.
