It was the 2nd day of December 2001 and Tom Brady and the New England Patriots were sitting at 6-5 and needed a big win against division rival Jets. They squeaked out a 17-16 victory in New York where Brady wasn't spectacular but also didn't make any mistakes. Brady and Pats went on to win the next 4 games and finish 11-5 and win the AFC East as well as Super Bowl.

It was the 1st day of December 2014 and Ryan Tannehill and Miami Dolphins were sitting at 6-5 and needed a big win against division rival Jets. They squeaked out a 16-13 victory in New York where Tannehill wasn't spectacular but also didn't make any mistakes. If the Dolphins were to win out like the Patriots did they would have a good chance at winning the divsion.

Other Coincendences

Patriots were ranked 6th in scoring offense and 6th in scoring defense in that 2001 season with 6.2 point per game difference.
Dolphins are ranked 10th in scoring offense and 6th in scoring defense with a 5.8 point per game difference.

That Patriot team was ranked 24th in yards per rushing attempt allowed with 4.3 yards per.
But they only allowed 7 rushing TD's all season.

The Dolphins are ranked 20th in yards per rushing attempt allowed with 4.3 yards per.
But they only allowed 6 rushing TD's all season.

Before the bashing begins let me say I don't really think that history will repeat itself in the Dolphins favor.
It would be sweet if it did.
Just thought it was an interesting co-incidence in the time continuim.

Let's make it happen, starting this week. Defense needs to start shutting down teams like that Patriot team did.
That Patriot team forced 14 turnovers in the last 4 games. Ours needs to step up their game in this final push.
No excuses, get it done. :hump:

Wilson went on a sick run in 2012 after starting 6-5 (just after losing to us). If Tannehill finishes similarly and plays to a 90+ rating every game from here on out we'll finish 11-5. Bank on that.

Just more of a reason to cry when the Dolphins do not finish like the 2001 ratriots did

Brady didn't put up very good passer ratings in that 4 game stretch. But those 14 turnovers were huge. He did make timely plays on third down and converted the turnovers into points as RT17 has been doing this year.
They had 5 defensive TD's that year and we are sitting at 3. We got one last year from Flacco and hopefully we can get another this week

This thread will not end well...

I like Tannehill, but I think a thread like this should probably wait until after he proves capable down the stretch. Setting up for disappointment if it doesn't end well

I can only think of the lousy CB situation we are in.

The pats had Vinateri, he won most of those for them iirc.

We have......

After the pats beat the jets their defense only allowed 1 TD in the last 4 games.
Since that last second TD by Rodgers the Dolphins defense has not allowed a TD in 2 full games at home. 3 of the last 4 games are at home.

Actually Sturgis is having career year at 83% and is 7th in the league in points scored.
After getting the short game winner out of the way in the meadowlands he is ready for bigger and better things. We are going to need him down the stretch and I have faith he will come through.

1791, you are one of my favorite posters. I dkbt know how u dug this up. But i wish u were right. Just give me 10-6 and a playoff win at cincy or indy and I'm happy this year

Thanks for the compliment.

Yeah I'd be happy with 10-6 and a playoff game in Cincy. I live in Ohio and went to Charger playoff victory last year that was supposed to be the Dolphins.
Maybe this year......

Brady's completion % in that game was also 71.4 (20-28, 213 yards), like Tannehill.

I would say though that Brady had the better day of the two when comparing those two games. The Jets were also a playoff team that year.
