I like the guy but I'm wary of getting some guy whos gonna end up being a lazy slob. I now am 100% for drafting Laron Landry.

per Rotoworld:

Scouts at Michigan NT Alan Branch's Pro Day told NFL.com draft expert Gil Brandt that Branch "did not look like he was in very good shape."

Reviews of Branch's postseason have been all across the board. Mike Mayock has classified Branch as a classic "boom-or-bust" prospect. :dolphins:

23 tackles his senior year... I don't care if he was double teamed every play and that he tells himself he is taking up blockers for others. This is college for crying out loud. If you can't get tackles in college your sure not going to get any in the pros. The 9th overall pick is not reserved for someone who can't make a play.

Another point the article about Branch mentioned was that a former player now DL coach Tim Krumrie (sp?) basically beat the crap out if him during a drill. Tim is known for being a very tough coach and has his line players go through a hand-checking/hand-slapping drill without pads that is supposed to be rough. Apparently Branch didn't do too well in the drill (the aforementioned getting the crap beat out of him) and "looked" like he was ready to give up in the middle of it.

I think we will pass at #9... I'm really warming up to Laron Landry now.

I think if we take a DT, it will be Okoye. Even if he's not a NT right now, in a few years he will be...

Id rather have Kareem Brown in the 3rd or 4th...I have seen Brsanch play a few games a year and in them he will make a few very good plays then fall of the map and not be heard from again.

In general besides QB, the 9th overall pick in the draft should be reserved for someone who will make an impact right away.

Definitely not gonna help his stock, but he'll still end up being a Top 15 pick.

If that's your criteria, then the only player to pick (assuming we're not taking Branch or Levi Brown) would be Landry.

I wouldn't mind Landry at #9, as much as I prefer to draft offense this year, we do need to secure our DBackfield & Landry would wrap up that side of the ball for us IMO.

Branch I wouldn't touch with a 10' pole.

Even with all that negative press I still wouldn't mind us taking branch. These criticisms aren't really anything new. Branch's motor and toughness have always been questioned. If he had a non-stop motor there would be no chance that he would be on the board at nine. I do think there is some risk taking a player like him, but at the same time the guy is 6-6 330 lbs. A NT is simply meant to take up space, and someone that big should have little problem doing that, motor or not.

I don't want to take a nose tackle until we know what we have in Fred Evans. I like Okoye but I don't see how he fits our scheme, he's more of a penetrative defensive tackle like Warren Sapp than a space eater. We have Holliday to fill that role when we shift to a four man front which we should do less of now with Porter on board.

I think since were top ten we have to take BPA... that will probably be landry.

We can load up offense with our 2 picks in the second and 3-4 rounds.
take a few experimentals or depth picks with the 6th and 7th rounds.

there should be quite a few good offensive players available to us in the 2nd through 4th rounds.

I would take okoye only if he is gonna play DT instead of DE. we got roth and taylor... and i would want all three of them playing right away.
