i just got back from the afternoon session. He punted on that bounced nexed to the sideline and landed right on the 1 in was really nice. David Martin made a nice catch in the scrimmage. The first play of the scrimmage we fumbled the snap. I think the 2nd play Green threw a pick to Will Allen.

I got Becks autograph and i wished him a good year and he said thanks. There weren't a lot of players giving them it shows hes a good guy

Every report so far on Fields is that he has a really big leg, I hope they put him on kick offs as well.

Cool about Beck's autograph.

I bet John Beck is really loving his first taste of the bigtime in the NFL. I would too if I were in his shoes. He seems like a good guy.

I'm hoping he turns out good like Cam and Randy think he will. They wouldn't have drafted him if they didn't think so. Terry Shea too. That's a heck of an endorsement for John knowing those guys' backgrounds. I bet John will take this opportunity and run with it. He might end up making Randy and Cam look like geniuses when John goes on to be a star after passing on Quinn.

People didn't think Drew Brees would turn out as well as he did when he came out of college ... but just look at those numbers he put up last year with the Saints. Cam might do the same thing with John. Let's hope so. John can't get to that point overnight. He just needs to have lots of good work days over a certain amount of time ... one good day at a time.

I was at the 4:00 today as well and thought that his puts had some good hang time, but didn't look as much as control as the other punter. What is it, Flinn? I don't know where he came from but he had some nice tight spirals on most of his.

Punting average career at MSU is 45.6 yards which is first all-time at Michigan State. :kick:

That's pretty damn good numbers. I hope he can do those precision punts inside the 10 yard also. One of the media blogs said he could really boom those punts ... 70 yarders. People underestimate the importance of special teams.

Mueller definitely didn't neglect to get good special teams guys this year with the addition of Ted Ginn and Fields. Let's hope our special teams coach can make those guys a big strength for us so we can have excellent field position most of the time. It's a heck of a lot easier to get points on the board when you start a drive from our 40 to the other team's 30 and at least get a field goal. It's also a lot easier to stop the other team from scoring when we have them backed up inside their own 10 yard a lot of the time.

I hope so, because at this point I am tired of hearing about how controversial our draft was. To tell you the truth, I hope Brady Quinn becomes the next Rick Mirer. Ha hah, you thought I was going to say Ryan Leaf, but seriously I think I hate Brady Quinn now, and it's personal as it pertains to John Beck! John is a much more genuine guy, plus I hate all of the prognosticators dissing the **** out of our draft darn it!:ninja:

I think everyone knows Fields has the leg strength to boom some punts. They keys will be consistency and directional punting. He needs to be consistent and work on pinning the opposing team - I will be very curious to see him work on this in the preseason games.

I may be wrong but I think he also has a slow kick setup which he will have to speed up or we are going to have alot of blocked punts.

Just what I was thinking. Not only does Brees look better than most ever expected, Rivers is also showing that Cameron knows how to ID and develop great young QBs.

after spending a draft pick on this guy he better be good..i would of rather spent that pick on a OL or DL

I heard the same thing about his slow release; however, after reading this today, I am encouraged. Here's a quote about Fields from Edgar Thompson's blog at the Palm Beach Post:

"Every time I turn around, kicking coach Steve Hoffman seems to be working with rookie P Brandon Fields on his steps and ball drop. There’s a lot more precision to punting than meets the eye.

If Fields can get the basics out of the way and focus on punting, he’s going to be a weapon. The guy’s leg is phenomenal. He just hit a booming spiral 70 yards in the air and made it look easy."

I hope that Brady has a great career, it wasn't his fault that the Dolphins didn't pick him. I just hope that Becks is better :cooldude:
