The Miami Dolphins have a couple more weeks before a slew of their players hit the free agent market. Between now and then, the team has to make a decision on what players they want to bring back. Cornerback Brent Grimes, who should be near the top of the list.
"
I'm pretty optimistic [on returning to Miami]," Grimes told the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson at Jason Taylor's charity gold tournament yesterday. "They said they like me here and want to have me back. Hopefully, it happens sooner than later, and I don't have to worry about it."
The Dolphins and Grimes' representation have spoken a few times, according to the cornerback. Miami could also choose to use the one-year franchise tag on Grimes, preventing him from hitting free agency, and buying themselves more time to workout a longer term deal. The franchise tag, however, would cost the team around $11.5 million in salary cap space this year.
The NFL deadline to use the franchise tag is Monday.
