Grimes will be 32 next month, and we all saw a drop off in his play last year from a great year in 2013, sme more than others. Here's a comparison based on CB's playing at least 50% of the team's snaps.

2013- NFL's stats ranked Grimes at #8. PFF's eyeballs ranked him at #2. He had 9 good games, 2 bad games (one for 6 missed tackles), and 5 average games.

2014- NFL ranked him at #30. PFF ranked him at #30. He had 3 good games, 2 bad games, and 11 average games.

Salary Cap- Grimes in unmovable this year and cost $10M. Next year, he will cost $9.5M but, we can save $6.5M by moving him, with $3M in dead money. In 2017, he cost $8.5M, can save $7M with $1.5M in dead money.

Grimes drop off last year was significant for him, as he became average. Same DC, no injuries I know of. It was Father Time or, we all hope just an off year. We REALLY need him to come back to what he was for at least this year, as we are already depending on Taylor for much more than he has ever done.

Grimes play may well di9ctate the team's success this year or, at least play a major role.

Just ask Philip Rivers how good Grimes was last year lol

I understand he regressed but hes still damn good

This was another reason I was so happy with the Suh signing. If our D line plays to expectations, Grimes and company's jobs in the secondary could get simpler.

I don't think anyone is gonna try and call him anything less than a damn good corner and football player. But even damn good players start to decline around his age. If he is our designated #1 corner, we have to make sure we are equipped to handle his dropoff with either good talent at the #2 position, or a replacement in hand. We can't lean on a #1 corner who is regressing , and we can't afford to overpay him if the production isn't there. If he bounces back this year I think you no doubt keep him and pay him, but if this is an age issue and not just an "off" season, then we have to adapt.

I love me some Grimes, but we absolutely have to get some young guys to take a big step up this year, and perhaps think about going CB again early in the draft.

Good point. He had a great game with 2 picks and giving up nothing.

I hope he does bounce back obviously, but whether he plays well this year or not, the bottom line is we need young, good, DEPENDABLE players in the secondary. As of right now we are severely lacking, it's time for Taylor and Davis to show something or GTFO and make room for players that will actually help this team.

Agreed. No one, at least not me, is saying that he was bad last year, just that there was a drop off which causes concerns because of age. If Grimes can be a top 10/15 CB for this year and the next it will be HUGE for this team.

Don't know who "Bret Grimes" is ... Is he related to Brent Grimes? Cause that guy is pretty good. Had an amazing pick covering Megatron last year.

Taylor has the talent IF he can stay on the Frakin field. Sam Madison, who has worked with him, said the same in saying that he can be VG if he stays healthy on Finsiders.

Grimes is fine, not much he can do when the defensive line is being pushed back late in the season.
He didn't look old in the pro bowl. Looked faster than anyone on the field.

Gil Brandt ‏@Gil_Brandt
NFL CBs w/ highest Red Zone burn %
1. Amerson 70% (10 targets)
2. Ron Parker 64% (11)
3. Grimes 62% (13)
4. Roby 60%...

Sure did...that pick against Hilton was sickening.
