The Miami Dolphins may have won the game on Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons, but the battles are only just beginning. And head coach Brian Flores wasn’t shy when discussing where the Dolphins would need to be better — primarily in the tackling department. But that doesn’t mean there were positives that Flores took away from the contest. Flores spoke with the media this afternoon and discussed his impressions upon a review of the tape.

He liked the Dolphins’ communication and execution, first and foremost.

Execution was much better. 3rd downs were better. Penalties weren’t too bad. So far so good. Saw a lot of WRs for Miami being schemed open. Good start.

I was favorably impressed -- considering the number of new coaches from Flores @HC
to OC and DC (all first time in their positions) it was a great sign.

I was also most impressed by the demeanor of Flores on the sideline.

Dude exudes intensity and focus.

It's obvious he's in charge.

Looking for more!

I saw a lot of drives extended by penalties on the other team.

Hard to depend on that

Any casual observer of the 1st preseason game would've seen the following:
-Bad OT play from Mills and lots of missed assignments in general on OL
-Needham got exposed and picked on for 4-5 consecutive plays by Schaub
-No DE pressure from Harris
-Bad tackling by secondary, LBs seemed fine on tackling

Good news is most of that is fixable. We've got to figure out Needham situation quick, he played like he had no arms out there in the first half, he looked lost during all his coverage. Harris shows no speed or strength at DEnd, and you need one or the other. Really would rather start the UDFA or Orchard over him if he's going to get 1 tackle, no pressure, no sacks on 55 snaps against backups.

For all this talk about "competition competition, best player will play", they aren't showing that with Harris. He just isn't a pass rushing DE, may as well try him at MLB or something, he can't generate a pass rush.

Loved our DTs though, unsung heroes of PS game 1, Wilkins and Godchaux both consistently got push and prevented pocket stepup, just need someone on the end to collapse the pocket and we may have a DL
