Brian Flores' Tenure in Miami Could End Sooner Than Expected

Every coach seems to be obsessively concerned with stopping the run. This is why. If you can't stop the run, you will be completely dominated, even in this era of pass-happy offenses. ESPECIALLY in this era of pass-happy offenses, because all the defenses are light and quick to handle passing offenses, so they simply don't have the raw power and physicality to handle running teams. We couldn't stop the run, and thus, we were epically dominated in every imaginable way. The defense played tighter to the LoS and were burned deep repeatedly. Our LB's were garbage so when they broke past the DL, everything was chunk yardage. Our poor DB's were doing most of the tackling, and most of those guys aren't built for that. It was a massacre.

Rule #1 on defense … and Coach Flo knows this … STOP THE RUN. We couldn't have failed more miserably.

Rule #2 on defense … generate a pass rush. We intentionally hamstrung this defense by consciously eliminating all pass rushers and not replacing them. It's only a matter of time until the secondary loses coverage without a pass rush to force the QB to throw quickly. This was by design, to allow Coach Flo to improve the other aspects of the defense while still ensuring that we tank. It is amazing just how well it works to hamstring a defense without pass rushers.

The tanking is by design … and the design worked a little too well.
you see I find that to be the issue. I expect kiko and McDonald among others to be jettisoned. That was more than obvious. The issue became filling the holes. They were more than deliberate about not filling those holes last week or with average free agents. The issue is that the players could see it as well. What I fear is that the players and coaches have begun to clash with each other. The NFL requires a large sacrifice in terms of personal health. When the players are being sent the message that their health is being sacrificed for future replacements and to lose you get what happened on Sunday. Sure we voided this year, but the players are worried about their jobs and possible future in the league.

Grier/Flores may have set off a "ticking time bomb" with the players. The players don't seem to believe the coaches have their best interests based on some of the body language Sunday. That and the mixed messages and active sabotage of the roster may not have been the response our franchise leaders wanted. Let's see what happens with week 2 but it's something to keep an eye on

And then there's the coach who called the defensive game plan to shut down the Rams in the SB.. so maybe you're talking about Graham, but that also remains to be seen.
Don’t get me wrong Vaark. I am not saying Flores is incompetent right now. All I’m saying is, tank season or not, if we continue losing big, if we continue having no answers for anything our opponents throw at us, if we end up being the worst team in league history, Flores is indeed incompetent - regardless of what happened in the Super Bowl - and there won’t be any justification to retain him. That’s a lot of ifs at the moment though but that’s my opinion.

No matter how many times we have witnessed first time HCs flame out due to failed immediate expectations...

No matter how many times we witness talented QBs not given proper grooming and resources to succeed fail as a result of poor coaching, inadequate supporting cast and insufficient resources devoted to their success....

No matter how many times we witness half attempts to gut and rebuild....

No matter how many times we assess with absolution that we need to start over and do this differently......

After all of those moments of reinforcement that change is necessary and painful....

When we hire a first time HC with a young staff, gut the team completely, acquire a QB that needs resources spent to rehabilitate, dedicate ourselves to a long term plan......

The fans reach for immediate results to satiate their appetite for success inspite of their own admission this will take time, patience and long term development.

This is what inexperience looks like. This is what a young roster devoid of leadership looks like. This is what a complete gut job looks like.

This entire organization pressed Reset. And they are doing it with youth and inexperience at every turn.

This is a 5 year plan. Not a 5 Super Bowls plan.

It will get ugly. They need to learn how to be a HC, DC, OC, QB... So on and so forth.

If you can't stand the carnage, look away.

Embrace it or find something else to do.

We are BUILDING.

We need leaders at every turn. This is how you find them. You let them bleed together. Let them find their own identity.

Flores and the coaches are preaching fundamentals and.fans are preaching scheme. Take a step back. You have to learn fundamentals before you learn a scheme.

The coaches are telling you where they are at this stage. Listen.

We are still looking for PLAYERD. Our roster has not even started to take shape.

At this stage, we are an expansion team. We have nearly a full cap to spend, bounty of draft picks and one or two player assets.

This will take time. NO immediate results here.

It's time for many to adjust their expectations so they can fairly judge what is on the field.

I hope so. Miami belongs in a 4-3 defense. The narcissistic culture needs to have star DE's...

That's right. The DC Graham isn't going to stand up there and instruct the media to just look the roster and ask what the **** do you expect.... but that's exactly what he's saying if you have half a brain.

The best coaches use the media as a tool to get a message across to the players, but the sportswriters are too busy thinking they're so smart to even notice it. I see it everyday.

All these guys are saying is that you have to win today first. Fact. You have to take that first step before you can begin the journey. Until you get the players to buy in and finally realize - hey, maybe coach is right - you can't take that first step. They'll keep standing up there and saying this same thing to the same questions until they do. Sometimes it just takes a while, and some just never will buy in.

Furthermore, they're saying practice is the most important thing they do besides playing a game. Somewhat of a fact - really the practices are more important than the games at this stage. They're trying to get guys to understand the fundamentals and learn how to win their individual matchups (do their job) before the scheme even matters.

I don't believe a single coverage or alignment is called by these coaches without a purpose. They know they're probably going to get burned on some of these, but they're using it to evaluate players. They're going to find out who's coachable and who's not. Who can develop into leaders and who can't. That's their job this season.

Big giant fart of an article.

We hired Flores based on a resume spanning 15 years capped off with a brilliantly called Super Bowl.

We aren’t going to fire him because of one blowout during a tank season.

The fact that this stupid **** gains traction is pathetic.

That is interesting...do you personally believe that the coaching staff is prioritizing next year and beyond in the way they prepare each game vs trying to be as competitive as possible now? This would be actually very reassuring strategically but would be great if we could distinguish this from incompetence in some way?

They want to give an extended audition to McMillan, Baker, and now the fringe player Eguavoen (sp?). They know only McMillan can stop the run. Baker has the elite trait of speed, so they want to give him a chance to learn the defense and hopefully become a non-liability in the running game, because he's a plus athlete in the passing game. His only trait is speed, but he has exceptional speed, so they really want him to develop. McMillan lacks speed, so they need him to play the Donte Hightower role and orchestrate the defense wile stuffing runs up the middle funneled to him. So, Baltimore didn't run at him, because Baker and Eguavoen were so easy to beat in the run game.

We were so inept in the run game, that we constantly sucked up our "safeties" McCain (who is an undersized CB and shouldn't be playing safety) and Reshad Jones and threw deeper breaking routes that made us look like we were at a track meet wearing combat boots.

No LB's to stop the run. Only Reshad Jones to stop the run from the safety position (McCain and Wiltz don't cut it).

In other words, we don't have the players to play god defense regardless of what the coaches call them to do. I count maybe 4 or 5 players that you can build with on defense and that's about it at this point.

I think they're doing what new coaching staffs do. They've got a roster full of players they don't know, that don't have NFL experience, and are only here as bodies so they can put guys on the field every Sunday. They have to see what players can do well and what they can't - try to coach 'em up. That's all they can do.

That is trying to be as competitive as possible. The coach said that the guys that are playing earned it (practice). It's just that most of 'em aren't any good - but it's the best they have to work with right now. But you still want the one's that aren't very good to play the way you need them to play technique wise and play to the best of their ability. You coach 'em all as hard as you can, and the one's worth keeping will reveal themselves. It's just how football works.

You repeat the same process next year, and every year you just keep repeating this process as the quality of your talent and depth increases. But it is a process. You have to get the players to focus on the process and not the results. Focus on the process and the results will happen. Right now you've got guys all over the place focused on the results instead of the process.

I heard a pretty good coach not too long ago point out how it's just human nature to be average. It's not human nature to be a champion. You have to be a champion before you can win a championship. Once you get players to realize this and decide they want to be special and not average - you're on your way. It's all in the details. How you practice and prepare.
