Anyone have an idea as to why we didn't sign Brian Waters? Thoughts of him being injured or unwilling to play went out the window with the Pats signing- now he's slated to start for them. What happened? He would have been a great fit imo.

He's a bit older , but then again he is coming off a Pro Bowl year. I was willing to give the FO the benefit of the doubt, but this Pats signing... makes me think twice about this one.
To me that sounds like a reasonable cost given our need and the fact that he's coming off of a Pro Bowl season. Maybe the FO is just set on Carey working out there.

The loss of Murtha is a bad one- not sure what happens if Colombo fails. Carimi would have fit in very well, but it's hard to argue with Pouncy and at least, apparently, Carimi was next on their list with the order of preference Ponder/Pouncy/Carimi. I can live with that. But Waters- at least you'd have the option of him at RG and Carey kicked out to RT if absolutely required, or just Waters replacing Carey outright. Would have been a nice security blanket at the least, especially with Jerry looking so awful.
