I'm fairly new posting here so if this topic has already been discussed I apologize. With the recent news that Saban considered drafting Orton in round four or McPherson in round five I got to thinking about Rogers. Don't get me wrong. I'm really excited about Brown and think he is a solid pick at a position that the Dolphins needed to upgrade in a big way. I also think Smith and Rogers were a little overrated. That said, I also think both can be very good qb's in this league and that's something Miami desperately needs as well. So with the uncertainty at the qb position should Miami have drafted Rogers instead of Brown -- maybe trading down in the process and getting more picks, or even at #2?

The fact that Rogers dropped all the way to GB shows that taking him at #2 would have been a HUGE reach and a stupid move.

No, Brown will help us more then Rodgers would. Browns helps the whole offense out, while Rodgers only helps the passing game. Besides, Rodgers is doing an awful job so far and he could end up being their #3 guy. I think that it will take Rodgers 3 years or so to be a good QB. But right now we need a QB to help us win more games.

He knows he is a QB of the future, all he has to do is learn out the techniques and he knows he can take it slow.

Ronnie Brown was the better pick even though I would have chosen Cedric Benson over him.

It's just no one else wanted a potential franchise QB between #2 and #24 :goof:

Rodgers was rated lower than Losman by NFL scouts. Losman was rated a few points below Smith and a few points below Big Ben.

Rodgers has bust written all over him. The dolphins made a good move staying away from him. I feel bad for Green Bay fans, now they will know how we felt when Kelly retired.

Eww, Todd Collins.

I believe Smith would have (rightfully) been our pick had he been there, but I and most people had Brown rated over Rogers.

I really disagree with the Bills fan who said NFL scouts had Losman rated so high. I'm sure some may have (Bills scouts, for example), but the majority had him rated much lower. The only scouting service that I've seen that actually shows their numbers for past years had Losman below all the QBs mentioned above. If you do a search on this site around the time before this year's draft you should be able to find it. Personally, I thought Losman wasn't worth a 1st and said so many times last year when some posters were touting Losman as a Miami pick possibility.

I think Smith would have been the pick as well. Miami sure spent a lot of time with him and he had ties to Lineman. I think Smith will turn out to be a player, but he will have to endure some hard knocks for awhile as SF doesn't have the talent around him. As to Losman, most draft "experts" had him in the 2nd round. I think the Bills reached for him, but he does have a good qb coach in Sam Wyche so he may turn out.

I think Brown was an excellent pick, but Miami could be scrambling a bit if Feeley doesn't pan out. He definitely could take some time to develop and I'm not sure how patient Saban will be with him. If we go qb high in next year's draft then I think fans will have to realize that this rebuilding project will take longer than most want or expect.

I would have chosen Smith over Rogers anyday, and I would have chosen smith over Brown aswell. I think that a #2 pick is too much to give up to a RB. Having said that I am pleased that we chose R Brown and wish him all the best. after all it is only an opinion :)

No way at #2. RB was at least as great a need as QB and there were no QBs worthy of the #2 pick left. There were 2 or 3 RBs worthy of that spot. Why would you take a lesser quality player over a greater quality one when the need at their respecive positions is equal? That is unless your name is Dave Wannstedt.

I'd rather have Smith than Rogers because I heard his potential was higher, which means to me he would be fine anyway. Especially having good grasp of the pro ofense he showed. Rogers dropped toGreen Bay only because nobody else (beyond us) needed a QB. He's still good. But Ronnie is such a multi dimensioned back (blocks, catches, runs with power and speed) that he's hard to pass up. Yes backs don't usually last, but he's also pretty big, which helps durability and we must have a decent backup in our pile to spell him. In fact that's been the problem, we only had backup running backs last year. So he could last 8-10 years with some help.
Any pick can be a bust or get injured, but Ronnie has soooo much upside, he could not be let go. You mentioned trading down? Saban tried, but could not get a bite. I think he'd take a QB if trading down and losing Ronnie, but if you are stuck at #2, you gotta take that special guy who can change your offense. Ronnie could and should do that.
