Browns have no plans to trade Cribbs

Posted by Mike Florio on October 15, 2009 9:08 PM ET
Earlier today, the Dolphins were mentioned as a team potentially interested in Browns receiver/kick returner Josh Cribbs.

The Dolphins apparently aren't the only ones.

According to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, several teams have been calling the Browns about Cribbs: the Dolphins, Colts, Chiefs, Raiders, Jaguars, and 49ers.

But we're told that the Browns aren't interested in trading Cribbs in advance of the October 20 deadline, due in large part to one of the things that makes him attractive -- a grossly below-market contract that applies through 2012.

Then again, whoever inherits Cribbs also gets his discontent regarding his contract.

Apparently, teams are willing to take their chances.

Even more apparently, the Browns are one of those teams.

Everyone has a price. However what is cribbs really worth. Considering Braylon is much more polished in the passing game as a pure receiver than cribbs is and he went for 2 guys, a third and a 5th IIRC. I cannot imagine cribbs being worth more than a 4th-5th considering he hasn't really done anything consistent over his young career.

That brings us to Bowe. If you look at what owens went for and moss and now braylon, that leaves me to believe that Bowe is worth no more than a 3rd or a 4th to 3rd based on incentives.

If these guys are really on the block, teams are going to overpay because they aren't PROVEN for 3-4 years.

Of course they're going to say they don't want to trade him. They still have 5 days to get the value up as far as it can go.

bowe is our answer.we are set for 8 years probably if we get him.. replacing old and injured parts here and there while keeping main people in tact.

They are probably not getting the offer they want. I certainly would not overpay.

I agree, I would be pretty excited if we got Bowe.

Think about it, our entire offense is under 30 with the exception of Ricky. (Grove will be there soon) We are young as hell. Add Bowe to the mix, and barring injuries, we should be able to keep this unit together for a long time. That will give the trifecta a chance to get young on defense through the draft. Couple stud LB's, young NT, and stud FS. Dang, I am getting excited.

Dammit what the hell is up with the Browns?
You would think Mangini would be pissed at the people who fired his ***.
Why is he hooking up the Jets and no one else??
My heart goes out to the Cleveland fans.
Looks like they are just beginning their "Wanstache era."

well i would give up a 3rd for cribbs and would not be upset our return game is subpar and adding a guy like cribbs the best return man in the game would be awesome i hope miami can add him if we can't make anything happen with bowe....

Where there is smoke there is fire. We are trying to get a WR. Lets see who comes on board before we play the Saints.
I agree.....I think the FO was just sniffin around to see what they wanted for him...I still think our true target is Dwayne Bowe....his coach is upset with the whole WR core, even demoted the WR coach...I think they are shopping him and will trade him...hopefully to us

Manjello will be canned within 2 years then they can give another Bellicheck student a shot once he gets fired at Notre Dame

Cribbs better do more than just return kicks if he wants to be valued as a traded guy for a 3rd rd pick.

Josh Cribbs would reportedly welcome a trade out of Cleveland if the Browns are unwilling to renegotiate his contract.
The local product would prefer to finish his career in Brown and Orange, but he doesn't want to do it as one of the most underpaid players in the league. The Browns are not expected to deal their star returner unless they receive "an offer they can't refuse."
