Browns | Team targeting Peterson in draft?
Sat, 24 Feb 2007 08:37:34 -0800
Tony Grossi, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports the Cleveland Browns are leaning towards selecting Oklahoma RB Adrian Peterson with the third pick in the NFL Draft.

That would be their smartest move right now. If they can establish a running game it will help take some of the pressure off Frye. They still need to work on the OL, which is why I think Cleveland will make a big push for Dielman or Steinbach in FA.

It more good news for us. Seems like Detroit really likes Thomas. If the Browns become sold on Peterson it could help us out very well. I remember they were saying yesterday on NFL network that it would be stupid for the Browns to try and draft a QB they need to win now and how Crenel is on probation they will more then likely be picking Peterson.

It will be very interesting to see what happens during FA. Im dying to see what teams trades for Carr. Where will Garcia and Plummer end up. What teams will pick up Huard and Rattay. Where will Joey go maybe Cleveland picks him up if we let him go.

I think they will make a move at RB before the draft. Chicago's Jones wants to be traded. The Ravens are cutting Jamal Lewis, probably. Turner is a great RB. Ahman Green is out there, most likely. Ricky Williams may come available if Mueller does not want to keep him.

As far as Thomas Jones Denver should be all over him, Jamal Lewis as this point in his career is another Reuben Drough, Ahmad Green maybe.Ricky isnt reinstated. Now If we can use Ricky as trade bait and a pick plus our number 1 to move to 3. That would be Awesome.

Still if they pick Quinn or Russell they are doing a favor for the Next coach after Crenel, look at Green this year he picks Lienart and he ends up getting fired.

They still likely wouldnt go with Quinn. i think Quinn would be the best longterm move that franchise could make, but the pressure to actually start winning is building there and Crennel is on the hot seat for this season. They need a player who will come in and make an immediate difference.
Given Detroits rumored ogling of Thomas, it makes sense for the Browns to spend their FA money on some OLine, and then draft AP, who could be a player miles above Jamal Lewis (way overrated). Green is likely staying in GB and Turner hasnt proven himself as a feature back. Jones may stay with the bears and anyway is getting older. They also might trade out with a team like us (for Quinn) or Houston (for AP) to pick up additional draft picks.

With the pressure of winning now, that would be a better choice for the Browns.
AP could go in and make a impact right away.

Good info...mark them down for Alan Branch or Brady Quinn. The closer it gets to the draft, the more you'll start hearing "reports," i.e. teams feeding the press what they want them to hear, about who a team is selecting. I've learned to never trust those reports. My mocks still have them taking Alan Branch.

AP would be a pretty good pickup for them, but I agree with finsfan4life, the chances of them taking Branch are probably just as good. Crennel's defense needs a big space-eating NT to run right, and Branch certainly fits the bill.
