The Bruins signed wingers Glen Murray and Shawn McEachern, and traded a 4th round pick for Brad Isbister. Good moves all. I'm shocked that Murray's back, in fact, I thought he had already signed elsewhere before the lockout began.

I'm also pleasantly surprised to see that McEachern (who was traded in one of the most boneheaded deals I can remember; they got a second-rate enforcer named Darren Kimble for him) is a productive second line scorer (I had to look up his stats, because I thought he was a decent "plumber", but little else).

Isbister has the size and talent to be a very good scoring "power forward" for the B's. He also has the distinction of being the only player to ever be a participant in the fantasy hockey league I was in as both an team owner and later as a drafted player.

I'll get excited about this as soon as Joe Thornton, Sergei Samsonov and Sergei Gonchar sign contracts, but it looks like Jeremy Jacobs might actually *GASP* give a damn about the team now.

Still, I'm tempering my expectations.

I wanted Glen Murray for the Panthers!

Oh well...we'll have to settle for the Forsberg/Naslund package.

Everyone should have a dream, bro.

Seriously, why don't you just wait until the B's lowball Thornton and he demands a trade? It's bound to happen. Thornton for Bouwmeester and a future #1, everyone's happy, except every Bruins fan on the planet. (Like a true fan of any Boston team, I'm bitching about events that haven't even transpired yet.)

We don't want to give up Bouwmeester. Had we wanted to, Chris Pronger would already be a Panther. And if Mike Keenan won't give up Bouw for his favorite player in the league, it's not happening for Thornton.

Modano is probably going to Boston to.

It's gonna suck having to play the B's and Leaf's 8 times a year if the Sabres front office keeps settling for mediocrity.

Noted, but at the start of the season, Pronger will be 31 going on 35, while Thornton's 26. I don't care how much of a homer Keenan can be, it's pretty clear that Thornton's value is much higher. If the B's made it clear that Jumbo Joe was available, and said "we'll give you Thornton if you'll part with Bouwmeester", I think the Panthers would bite.

Awesome! Only two years after he was any good!

I'm only half-joking. In theory, the B's will sign Modano, work things out with Thornton and have arguably the best combination of centers in the NHL. More likely, they'll sign the over-the-hill Modano and try to package him to fans as a suitable replacement for Thornton.

You hit the nail on the head my friend...Bruin fans need to WAKE THE HELL UP and not buy this crap from O'Connell.

I've already come to grips with Thornton walking...especially after they lowballed him. If they got Modano it would be nothing but a band-aid solution. They also over-paid Glen Murray...big time. Yes, signing him again was great but they gave him too much money.

The thing I'm wondering though...when is it acceptable to "divorce" a team?

I've been a Bruins fan literally since I was an infant. I've put up with so much crap from Sinden, Jacobs and now O'Connell. Letting a 26 year old center, entering the prime of his career, arguable one of the top 3 centers in the entire league, walk for nothing is the most absurd thing I've ever heard.

We're not talking about some small market, backwater town here. The Calgary Flames have found a way to pay Jerome Iginla yet the Boston Bruins can't find a way to pay Thornton?

Seriously...if Thornton walks I need to know what the procedure is to divorcing a team. I have another NHL team in my heart...but they are'nt in my blood like the Bruins.

That being said....I really don't know how much longer I can deal with it...

They better give up more then Bouwmeester. I really think Bouwmeester is going to be a top flight NFL defenseman but Thornton is already an elite center.

This is the type of trade the Bruins would make though...Bouwmeester comes cheap...they can trade him in 3 years when it is time for him to get paid...it's called the never ending rebuilding project...

I don't know what the procedure is, to be honest. I think for me, I'd just stop paying attention to hockey if I was going to divorce the B's. (Since you're Canadian, that may not be an option.) In fact, this is like a trial reconciliation right now. The 2003 playoff loss to Montreal, followed by the lockout, followed by yet another possible star departure, is testing my love for the team I grew up with.

Muzz's deal was for 4 years and a shade over $16 million. That's not too bad, actually. The good side is that the Boston papers are saying this will be a big help in bringing Jumbo Joe back long-term. We'll see, but after reading that, I felt a little better.

Just found out the B's signed Dave Scatchard, as well. So at least the third line center is set now.

It would have been nice to see the Bruins go out and get a winger like Kariya. I believe the deal he took with the Preds was something along the lines of 9 million over 2 years. I can see why the B's were cautious with that type of deal, Nashville might have overpaid for him.

Sinden was on WEEI earlier today, and he tried explaining that the Bruins offered Peter Foresberg more money than the Flyers did, which is where he ended up signing. Harry cited the reason for him signing with Philly, he believed they were closer to winning a championship than the Bruins are. And although it's true, it's pathetic to think that this ownership group has brought down this franchise so much, that a player would turn down more money to come here because the Bruins aren't committed to winning.

Same old Sinden and Jacobs...

Hey FiPL, did you get my last PM?

I did indeed. I was on vacation this past week, which is why I wasn't posting at all and didn't respond to your PM. I just got back tonight, but it's good to be back though.

As far as your PM, I will edit the original opening statement I wrote up pre-Yankee Series. Again, sorry for the delayed response. Good to talk to you again though, I missed the discussions.

P.S. Not the appropriate thread, and I will only say this. Nevin has done a tremendous job since joining the Rangers.
