Buccaneers | Close with Hilliard - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 4 May 2005 17:36:19 -0700

Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are close to signing free agent WR Ike Hilliard (Giants) to a one-year contract. Agent Jim Schwartz said the deal is about 99% complete. Hilliard is scheduled to fly to Tampa Thursday, May 5 to spend the day visiting Buccaneers officials.

I guess that will leave us with Hakim,Boston and Lee.

I think Id rather have the 3 guys you named anyway

I would only take Boston if he agrees that he will change his attitude and be more of a team first guy. I think that wont be a problem with him.

he already proved that to us. he was busting his azz before he injured himself.

I wasn't a big fan of signing Hillard so maybe if Tampa Bay signs him that'll be a good thing. Top prospect on my list is Boston. With the possibility of Thompson being released, I think we'll end up signing a FA WR soon enough. Hopefully Boston. We need a 3rd string WR in my opinion (especially if we lost Thompson), I would be content with Gilmore at #4.

I hope we sign either Boston or Hakim. Lee would be an ok signing, but he would probably have a hard time beating our Thompson or Newson for the #3 spot, while Hakim and Boston would probably easily claim that spot.

Also, if I remember correctly he was quoted as saying he expected to play again last season. He said since he had the same injury before he knew how to rehab it and get back sooner. It was Wanny who ended his season. It was the right call to di it though.

He did change to a more team player then a selfish one. He was willing to even lose wieght and train with the team in some instances.

Yeah he also took out his colored contacts. Which the coaches stated he started dropping less passes and caught the ball cleaner.

All signs pointed to him really wanting to work with and for the team.

You have a "PRI MADONNA" who does it his way. Worries more about his appearance then anything else. Then he decides to take out the contacts, change his workout ethics and lose wieght. To put it is perspective this shows someone that was putting the team first before himself.

I also remember the coaches advised him to stop practicing in that game against Tennessee. He elected to play through the pain he had already had in his knee. Two plays after the advice from trainers and coaches not to continue he blew out his knee. Once again showing committment to the team and proving himself.
