Bucs Get Griese

Bucs acquired QB Brian Griese from the Bears in exchange for an undisclosed second-day draft pick.
If the Bears get more than a seventh-rounder, we'll fall over. Griese, 33 this month, couldn't beat out Kyle Orton or Rex Grossman last year, turning the ball over 13 times in seven appearances. He knows the Bucs' offense, but will be battling with Luke McCown, Bruce Gradkowski, and possibly Chris Simms just to make the team. Jeff Garcia is locked in as the starter.

I cannot understand why the Bears keep sticking with Grossman year after year? Griese and Ortman are both better than Grossman, but hey if the Bears have an ongoing man-crush with Grossman that's fine by me.

To be fair, he didn't do that poorly in Chicago. Engineered a couple of game winning drives with poor RB and subpar OL play. And he fared pretty well in Tampa before Gruden decided to go young with Simms. With Garcia in tow, I dunno why they agreed to send a draft pick for another veteran. It'd make more sense for them to just draft. Of course, I wouldn't have minded seeing Griese given another shot to be a stopgap starter here.
