he franchise tagged antoine winfield and then traded him to me. we figured since none of us should be at liberty to give up 2 number one picks for a franchise tagged player (other wise wed be trading picks 2 and three years down the line) that once they are tagged they are on our team and we are free to keep or trade them.

What If i was really interested in Winfield...? Why should it be impossible to sign an UFA? Franchise tagging him basically makes it impossible for us to sign him, considering we can't gaurantee picks next season for various reasons.

I'm not saying that the trade shouldn't go through, or that this "rule" of franchise tagging should be changed, but I definatley think that it's a tad bit unfair. I'm almost positive there were a few guys out there who thought they had a chance to sign Winfield in free agency, to now find out that he's been traded, .............as an UFA :eek:

That's how the tag works in the NFL.
 
I dont have a problem with the rule since in our league youd have to trade for 2 firsts in this years draft, which would be hard, then give up those two firsts and pay a HIGH salary for a guy at that position, i myself wouldnt do that for a guy like woodson, or champ bailey, let alone winfield, then again it's not just my opinion, other owners may do that. For example, in real life the colts feel safe tagging peyton because no one is planning on giving them two first rounders and paying that huge salary despite him being one of the best qbs in the league.

so, with that, see the main page, i apologize for jumping the gun and try to address this issue. I think teams should be allowed to franchise tag players since they do have the right to keep them if they wish and can pretty much guarantee they have him by giving them a top 5 salary at the position and demanding 2 number 1's as compensation(seems unlikely any of us would do that). Nonetheless ill go with whatever the league rules are from now on, just wasn't aware, just need to know what to do about all the trades by both teams mayde after that one.

I watch all most every sport going but I have to say there is no team I hate more then the Bills.. Although there is one Bill's player that I do like and that is Scott "Wide Right" Norwood.
