I hope in the end it works out better for us. Good luck in oakland burnett.

Raiders signed LB Kevin Burnett, formerly of the Dolphins.
Burnett, 30, racked up 110 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble last season as the Dolphins' starting weak-side linebacker. Pro Football Focus graded Burnett as the No. 4 4-3 outside 'backer in football, behind only Von Miller, Jerod Mayo, and Lance Briggs. Burnett should bring an edge to Oakland's defense, replacing Philip Wheeler at "SAM." Kaluka Maiava projects to start on the strong side with Nick Roach in the middle and Miles Burris heading to the bench.

Good for him. Even trade I guess. It will be fun to compare the stats and film this year with Wheeler.

I wonder if Dansby ends up in Buffalo or Baltimore.

Burnett, very good, Wheeler, we are hoping is a change gamer type of LB

Between Dansby and Burnett we got 3.5 sacks I believe. They were both very good against the run but little threat as blitzers.

i think the idea is young , fast , aggressive blitzing linebackers coming from anywhere type D. i would not be surprised if they got another LB in the draft that plays the same way also. That takes away the urgency for having another Wake type guy on the other side. Defenders coming from every where.

I heard Ellerbe talking about playing with Rashard Jones at Georgia. Hopefully the middle of our defense with be solid with these two old chums.

Burnett was a hard worker and helped his teammates. He wasn't a problem in the locker room or off the field. He was a solid player and ended up being better than he was advertised to be for us. I wish him the best.

With Roach and Burnett that Raiders linebacker corps looks better than I would have thought. I want another linebacker later in the draft for depth. I like Koa as the 2 down linebacker because in the league now that is only a part time spot you dont want t spend too much on and Koa can help in the DE rotation and special teams. I think Coyle likes Wheeler and Ellerbe because he is a zone blitz guy when we get into the sub packages

Wheeler had 109 tackles - 3 sacks, basically an even swap. Only Wheeler is a tad younger and may play a bit more aggressively per what I have read

Thats really neat how you contradict yourself in the same post!

he is younger and possibly more aggressive doesnt take away he feels it an even swap. Burnett is superior against the run

Wheeler is a solid player but he is not going to turn into something he has never been. Basically an even swap

For Ireland to pay so much for Wheeler and move so quickly, I don't think that he is planning for it to be just an even swap. Burnett was solid and the easy thing for Ireland would have been to sit on his hands and put his efforts into the many other RFA's we pursued. The pursuit of younger, faster linebackers with an aptitude to make sacks and pressure the QBs is a deliberate strategy being implemented. I hope that it works.
