I read on B/R earlier this morning we were bringing him in for a visit today. Anybody have a link to this? I wasn't able to link it myself to post it in here.

Byron Jones, CB/S, Connecticut
Height: 6-1. Weight: 196.
40 Time: 4.35.
Projected Round (2015): 1-2.
4/18/15: Jones totaled 24 tackles with four passes broken up and two interceptions this year. He had a good productive performance against East Carolina and its potent passing attack with an interception and pass broken up. A shoulder injury ended his season after seven games though. Jones didn't run the 40 at the Combine, but turned in a tremendous vertical jump of 44.5 inches. At his pro day, he blistered a fast 40 time and continued his tremendous postseason.

I like it, nice height/speed/agility combo. Would be a welcome addition.

I like the person. But as a prospect I see him more as a S/CB combo than a starting boundary corner.

All i know is his numbers are astonishing. That alone makes me want him on this team.

I like him. My dad's family is originally from Waterbury. I still have relatives in the state. One of them from Norwich tipped me off on Jones last year. So I watched that team frequently, even if they are frankly boring to watch more often than not.

Jones is going earlier than expected. I wouldn't be shocked at late first round. He's not only got the ultra rare metric numbers but there are also obscure stats out there measuring effectiveness per pass defensed. Jones is quietly right near the absolute top of the list.

I agree it doesn't always translate to awesome looking while watching him play. Opponents seldom challenged Jones. He could look bored out there.

Not as fluid as ideal, despite the athletic numbers. I agree that he can resemble a combo corner/safety. But often that type of thing smooths itself out with this type of rare athlete after some coaching and maturity. Many of the long press cornerbacks who are starring in the league right now had the same knock coming out of college and went lower than their skill set warranted. The metric-obsessed teams are growing in number so those extreme bargains won't be there anymore.

He has the highest Sparq rating in the draft. IMO he's undoubtedly locked into the 1st rnd, seeing him go top 20 wouodnt surprise me one bit.

One of these coaches are going to beg to get this guy so they can mold him.

I think he will have a Dj Hayden type rise come draft day. He very well may be the 2nd CB off the board and I've been saying he will go a lot higher than anyone expects right now. Top 20 would not surprise me either.

He is going to be a good player but honestly I like Jamar Taylor a ton. He's got all the tools and is a menace in run support. Wouldn't mind rolling in with Taylor as my CB2

I don't see anything stopping him from being the 1st cb drafted. That kind of athletism is generally exclusive to WRs, cornerbacks this athletic are ridiculously rare.

IMO Trae is incredibly overrated, and with the proper coaching there's nothing Trae can do, that Byron won't be able to do also.

LOL - He also happened to break the standing broad jump world record. Genuine certified world class athlete.
