A couple of threads have been popping up, saying Zack is done and is getting up there in age.

Anyone that watched some Florida football would know Crowder was a beast back in college. He's pretty good now. But is he better than Zack?

ALot of people say zack is on the decline and is getting up there in age. Which maybe so... But he's still out performing the great majority of LBs in the game. People say his coverage skills are slipping. I'm sure two plays come to mind, the Heath Miller TD and then the Titans TD pass to the TE. Really though, both of those plays, the saftie was supposed to role over on coverage. When expecting coverage help, the LB is more likely to let up on the coverage or come over a little late. It's very common. So, i'm wondering, other then those two plays, where do all the coverage complaints come from? I question the basis of that allegation.

As good as Crowder is in his second year, Zack Thomas is still the better LB.

Another complaint, is his inability to blitz. Which is a deserving complaint because he's mostly inaffective. But you have pass rushing Lbs, cover, Lbs, and Run stopping LBs. Zack excells in run stopping, average with coverage, but lacks the ability to rush the qb. Very simple, rush someone else or draft a pass rushing LB or a better cover guy, put him in along side zack or put him in on third downs to spell zack.

Crowder is NOT on the same level as Zach yet and should NOT yet be compared...

Zach is leading the league in tackles and is still the BEST LB in coverage... On both of those TE TD's it was busted coverage not Zach's fault.

Crowder has'nt done jack squat since he's been here, not one significant play that i can remember, pretty disapointing to me relative to the hype he gets on this board,he's played exactly like a third round pick nothing more nothing less.

no way in Gods green earth is he better than zach thomas right now this second.......no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crowder will probably show more once he's moved inside. But will he ever be on Zach Thomas' level??

Not likely.

hopefully as crowder becomes more expierenced and eventually moves inside, he will become a badazz an be dominant in blitzing and run coverage.

zach is a tackling machine and always will be. he has unbelievable awareness and always seems around the ball. he is currently leading the nfl in tackles and has had a good start to the season.one thing we need to change is blitzing zach. he just gets knocked on his 5'11 little arse! crowder is like a faster taller version of zach and could become as good as him later on in his carrer. BUT zach is still better imo

He had a nice forced fumble last year...

So I take it some people are catching onto the point of my post. ALot of people want a replacement for Zack, "lets draft a LB". Well we drafted one that could of been drafted in the first round if it wasn't for a supposed charecter issue and knee problems. I seriously doubt we could draft any rookie Linebacker and him be as good as Zack, if so, that would be one special player. So why all the talk that he's on the downslope? It just seems like the popular thing to do, when a player is getting old "oh, he's old so therefor his ability is declinging and we need someone else". They'll say all this even though Zack is still playing at a hight lvl. I can see us having three more good/solid yrs with Zack at middle linebacker.

Crowder IMHO has a lot of potential and has yet to reach it. He is still learning the ropes. He is a good tackler and is decent at taking on the ball carrier with the right angle and technique. He really needs to work on his pass coverage. Right now he is an OK LB who may get better with time.

Zach's demise is exaggerated. I do believe he has lost a step in coverage. But the man is still producing and is a tackling machine. NO, Crowder is not as good as Zach.

i agree that zach is one of the best when it comes to awareness and vision.
My only complaint is that he does not seem to be dominant anymore and i could be wrong but ever since a few years ago when he started getting neck injuries(or shoulder, whatever it was)he doesnt seem to hit people anymore. its like he either grabs on and gets taken for a ride or he goes after ankles.

I know ron dayne is huge but the play sticking out in my mind is when texans were like 3rd and 6 ran dayne up the middle, zach read the play well and hit dayne a yard or 2 short of the first and dayne just ran over him and while thomas got the tackle dayne more importantly got the first down.

I am not saying we can replace thomas with someone who is as smart as him but i am not opposed to bringing in an athletic hard hitting linebacker. but i also think that neither thomas or crowder are the most important linbacker to replace right now. We need to get someone to fill in for spragan.

I think you should have posted this in those threads.
