I have never been a big fan of players that move up a draft board because of a great workout. IMHO it comes down to how they play. Too many times players move down draft boards because his "timed speed" wasn't good enough or he only put up so many reps @ 225. It is how you play on the field. That being said something about Gholston makes me nervous. He disappears too much IMHO. So look at the stats between Chris Long and Vernon Gholston.
Chris Long's:
Career Statistics
Year GP TKL TFL Sack
2004 6 5 2 1
2005 12 46 10 2
2006 12 57 12 4
2007 13 79 19 14
Vernon Gholston's:
Career Statistics
Year GP TKL TFL Sack
2004 6 0 0 0
2005 2 1 0 0
2006 13 49 15 8.5
2007 13 37 15.5 14
The sack numbers look great for Gholston, but 37 tKL in 13 games?? I like to see production, 3 TKL per game for the #1 pick? I realize there is lots more too it than just statistics. But I just have a problem with 3 tackles per game.
Chris Long just comes across as a "lunch pale" kind of guy that the Dolfans would absolutley love. Think Zach. Gholston comes off differently, I can't put my finger on it. Everytime I see him I think Mike Mamula, workout warrior, and that just scares me.
I know that Jake Long looks like the first pick, and I think he should be. However, if it is a smokescreen or if they cannot get a deal done, I would rather it be C. Long than Gholston.
